Possibly Changing the Order of the Information?[edit]

I was thinking that the name of the museum should go first maybe. Like museums, accreditation, galleries should go first. Any thoughts? (Vhfs (talk) 15:43, 15 August 2014 (UTC))[reply]

I think this list with the university/college name first is in a reasonable order, since most of the galleries are not well known by name, but are likely known in the community as the "X University Art Gallery". Also, since so many schools have several galleries, it will be hard to come up with a consistent order for that column.
In my opinion, the column for public/private is not really relevant, since this relates to the school itself and not the museum or gallery. Also, the accreditation column is not as important, since most are not accredited. If you decided to create similar lists for other states, I would eliminate those columns. What makes these institutions and their collections vulnerable to private interests is exactly the fact that they are nested in larger more powerful better-known universities. The point in changing the order would be exactly to give the less powerful institutions more profile. Thereby giving them more protection against university administrators who are often tempted to sell the collections when times are tough.

Secondly, the private/public distinction is important also. It is primarily private universities who have sold off bits of their collections to shore up university coffers. We need to keep track of them because they are the most at risk.

For me the list of galleries is not so important, they are usually secondary sites. The most important thing is that they are all named, alphabetically.

Accreditation, finally, is also important. For people from outside the United States, so they can see how it works, and people inside the United States who might begin to understand that it is done very differently in other places.
