Untitled[edit]

Swatch, like Seiko, Vostok, Seagull, Citizen... are one of the few wristwatch manufacturers that produce all of their watches and movements entirely in-house. Yes, Swatch means cheap watches, but is a true manufacture. Volmax watches (Sthurmanskie, Aviator, Buran or РЧЗ)) are manufacture too IMHO, because they produce now the Poljot movements.

According to different websites ETA movements are used in Swatch watches, although ETA belongs to the Swatch group as well, so it is not a manufacture. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.42.60.190 (talk) 08:32, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If "A company only needs to produce at least one movement in-house to be considered a manufacture,", Omega produces its 8500 movement and it's a manufacture. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.7.16.148 (talk) 23:31, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

For Claude Girardin: First of all Philippe Dufour is one of the most reputed and respected master watchmaker of our times, so of course all of his movements are in-house. Search for him on the internet. [1] [2]

Romain Gauthier: [3]

Lang und Heyne: [4] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.55.121.229 (talk) 18:50, 26 October 2009 (UTC) If you want to add some true manufactures on the list, then you should establish the article with all necessary references and get it approved. It is not only for you, nor for me to debate whether Philippe Dufour is really a manufacture: respect and reputation does not make design in house calibres and movement parts![reply]

Do some ground solid work of research and redacting now! Perhaps you shall be able to confirm your opinion, lest establishing Philippe Dubois, (and all the others you just wished to "plant" on the list), as an outstanding "watchmaking" company, as there are so many others. ;-)

Well, I was the one who created the article with the intention of people adding Manufactures and I would like to clear up that I have not any personal interest in adding the firms you deleted, on different websites like the one I linked above say that Romain Gauthier, Lang und Heyne are Manufactures that is the reason why I added. About Tag Heuer, why have you added to the list? Do you have any proof? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jafd88 (talkcontribs) 18:05, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As suggested, here you have different links to prove that Romain Gauthier is a true Manufacture:

  • A video, an image worth a thousand words: [5]
  • Some articles :[6]

Appreciating. claude (talk) 13:22, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Manufacture" vs. "Manufacturer"[edit]

Undid a redirect to list of watch manufacturers. There is a big difference between a "manufacture" (French word, no "r" at the end) and "manufacturer" (English word, final "r"). The former refers only to companies that produce their watches in-house, rather than buying movements from elsewhere. Knowing whether a certain manufacturer is officially a "manufacture" is extremely important knowledge, so this shouldn't simply be redirected. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.215.116.186 (talk) 02:38, 16 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

On Wikipeida we are not allowed to use original research or advertising claims. If we used a strict definition of "manufacture" then this category would shrink to a handful of entries. --Racklever (talk) 09:53, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

History[edit]

"Until the 1970s most of the Swiss watch brands made their own mechanisms" where is the source for that statement? I don't believe this is true. Most Swiss companies bought movements from specialty movement manufacturers or bought ebauches and assembled, finished or modified the movements before casing them. Valjoux, Piquet, Peseux and Lemania made movements for someone, didn't they? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.72.139.50 (talk) 20:19, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed --Racklever (talk) 09:54, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Merge to List of watch manufacturers[edit]

This list is based on advertising claims and original research so should be merged to List of watch manufacturers. Does anyone disagree ? --Racklever (talk) 07:17, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
