Additions to Western San Francisco Bay and Northern San Mateo Coast are per Creek & Watershed Map series published by Oakland Museum of California. I did not, however, include the meta info from GNIS. Christopher Richard, Curator of Aquatic Biology, Oakland Museum of California Salmo13 (talk) 22:46, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for helping to expand that section. Stepheng3 (talk) 23:45, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stepheng3, Is there any cool tool in wikipedia to find if there are pages for any of the creeks I added - other than the obvious individual searches? It looks like you have built most of the individual creek pages... maybe you can add the links where they exist? There are other smaller creeks that are unnamed, I've got maps for them all online at the Oakland Museum of California website, where I have adapted local geographic names for the watershed name. Due to your adherence to GNIS I did not include those. your thoughts? I can't vouch that all the names I did add are in GNIS, but they are at least all in use by the local governments. I don't know of any easy way to search for individual creek pages. You might try looking in categories such as Category:Rivers of San Mateo County, California. I'm okay with including creeks that don't have GNIS ids, though I find them useful to have, for features that're in the database -- for one thing it provide disambiguation. You might be surprised how often there are multiple features with the same name within a single county. If you like, I can go through and add wikilinks and GNIS ids. Hullo! I'm really glad to find this list, but I am afraid that the geographical distinctions (southeastern, southwestern, western etc) are hard to parse (south of what? west of where?) without some kind of map. Do those distinctions already exist on some other map somewhere, that could be added to this page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.164.235.142 (talk) 19:30, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sanchez and Easton Creeks mouth coordinates swapped in GNIS

[edit]

GNIS search shows mouth coordinates (reversed):

  • Sanchez Creek 232485 373532N 1222015W
  • Easton Creek 233826 373506N 1222207W

Sanchez Creek details

  • 1 37.5921575 -122.3374703 373532N 1222015W (north of Easton! -- wrong)
  • 2 37.5541667 -122.3736111 373315N 1222225W

Easton Creek details

  • 1 37.5849359 -122.3685825 373506N 1222207W (south of Sanchez! -- wrong)
  • 2 37.5724368 -122.3949725 373421N 1222342W

(1=mouth 2=source; use decimal coordinates to compare to Google maps)

Google maps doesn't show the whole creeks, but shows the mouths; the paths can be traced in the terrain view:

Sanchez Creek

  • 37.588884, -122.358430 mouth (south of Easton, along Sanchez Ave. -- close to GNIS Easton mouth data)
  • 37.556035, -122.376316 source near top of Chateau Dr. (agrees with GNIS)

Easton Creek

  • 37.593541, -122.361925 mouth (north of Sanchez, along Easton Dr. -- close to GNIS Sanchez mouth data)
  • 37.572353, -122.395158 source near top of Canyon Rd. (agrees with GNIS)

If anyone knows how to get them to fix their data, that would be good. Dicklyon (talk) 04:04, 30 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
