Title wins by County[edit]

I have just corrected a couple of sample errors in this section but there are several more which need picking up Grimsby Town F.Cand Middlesbrough F.C. are just two and I would have done so if I had not started to question what the value of this section really is. I am not aware of anywhere else and in any other context that we take much heed of which county teams collectively reside. All the list goes to show is how the majority of clubs and the clubs with the most clout tend to be historically associated with the larger conurbations. If the consensus is that this list page is of value then its also worth pointing out apart from the errors, that the choice of Counties ( which were labelled cities until I edited the title just now ) are a mix bag and need some overhaul. A visit to Counties of England will reveal that they are a mixture of historic, ceremonial, defunct and current titles and along with London are in need of a rethink. I have made some further alterations to this article pretty much in line with the above, such as taking Grimsby out of Yorkshire and moving Stoke to Staffordshire as well as including Millwall in the list as they would appear to have been left out- perhaps nobody likes them after all ;) Hopefully this will make the table a little more accurate- at least the figures add up now and correspond with the list directly above it. I didn't go so far as to check thoroughly against the roll of winners though, so there may be some discrepancies there. Similarly I have used the counties that had already been used (with the exception of Staffordshire which I added) and haven't, for example, broken Yorkshire down into its constituent administrative parts. I agree that there's not much use for this part, however large numbers of other articles contain similarly irrelevant sections so I am somewhat loath to remove it. I had no qualms about removing it:
  1. It is trivial and of little real interest.
  2. Unlike cricket, football has little to do with counties (other than the county F.A.s).
  3. It is too complex to measure and would be not be meaningful. West Bromwich Albion won their 2nd-flight titles when the club was based in Staffordshire, but they are now based in the West Midlands (the club hasn't moved but the boundaries have). Similarly, Birmingham used to be in Warwickshire and Bradford is now in West Yorkshire, not Yorkshire. There are many more similar examples. This section had to go. --Jameboy (talk) 21:39, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Play-offs[edit]

The way that the tables are laid out makes it seem as though the play-offs were introduced in 1992-93 rather than 1986-87. However, I'm not sure what would be the best way to make it clearer. --Jameboy (talk) 14:58, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
