Unconfirmed tornadoes

[edit]

Unlike with outbreak articles, IMO generally speaking they do not belong on this page as they aren't always confirmed as tornadoes. However, I think there should be an exception for significant tornado reports - those with fatalities, numerous injuries or major structural damage, since those are probably the most searched upon. Start a new page April 1?

[edit]

Since the page is getting long (41K with possibly another big event tomorrow) and activity usually picks up big time in April (even though March has been well below normal so far), should a new page be started beginning April 1 for at least April tornadoes? If a specific month has more than 100 tornadoes, IMO, it should have a an article such as List of United States tornadoes in April 2009. Cyclonebiskit 00:25, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The page has hit 100K now, and the April total is now 100. Suggested articles: List of United States tornadoes from January to March 2009 and List of United States tornadoes in April 2009. CrazyC83 (talk) 21:57, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've thought of splitting it in three in periods of four months (Jan-Apr, May-Aug and Sep-Dec). Now if there are too many tornadoes in one of the periods, maybe a further split will be needed. JForget 19:46, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
100K is generally considered to be an upper limit to suitable articles. Now that may not necessarily be manageable (such as in May 2008 with 461 tornadoes), but the page gets considerably slower beyond that. January (6) had way, way too little to make monthly separate articles though. CrazyC83 (talk) 20:24, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
