Main image[edit]

Now that there is a separate image of the church in the relevant article section, perhaps a more general view of the church should not necessarily be used as the main image at the top of the article. At a high enough zoom setting it is possible to see that the sign in the current main image says "Little Hulton Distict Centre". But the image is really not very distinctive. At first glance it looks very much like a suburban street view from anywhere in the UK. It is, however, the only general town image currently available at Commons. There seem to be others at geograph.com that could be imported, although the better ones still seem to be of the church, e.g. [1]. There are also quite a few of the pubs at geograph, and even of the site of the former railway station, which seems to have a memorial stone. Any ideas for a stronger main image? This one of nearby Peel Park is not too bad, if a little empty: [2]. This one of the Wesleyan Chapel on Cleggs Lane is quite good: [3]. Here's one of the disused railway line, which is quite attractive: [4] and here's one of the stone: [5]. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 11:07, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Suggest this one File:Little Hulton District Centre.jpg might be more distinctive. Martinevans123 (talk) 17:56, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Why put a picture of a sign? The image is very representative of what Little Hulton looks like. The idea is to give an impression of the settlement which is what the image does. J3Mrs (talk) 18:38, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Why? Because the sign is unique to Little Hulton. No one can argue that the existing image doesn't give an impression (even if that's a very drab and mundane impression), but I think the image might just as easily be titled "three cars on a suburban street". For me it really spoils what is otherwise a top class article. A picture of the fine Cooperative Hall might perhaps be better, even though the ground floor is a BetFred betting shop these days. Here's one from Twitter [6] but it has copyright. Martinevans123 (talk) 19:25, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Peel[edit]

In John Bartholomew's 1887 Gazetteer, Peel is described as "eccl. dist. Little Hulton township, Deane par.,"[7]. Is any more known of the origin of the name? There is another Peel in Blackpool, the origins of which seem equally obscure. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:33, 16 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
