Guest Hosts

Hey, why was Anderson Cooper sitting in Regis's seat today? He's cute, but him and Kelly don't seem to go well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.0.32.190 (talk) 17:55, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Who the hell does Pat Syjak think he is?, No one has ever shut up Kelly Rippa, but everytime Syjak is on the show he totally takes over. He should stay @ Wheel of Fortune — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.190.238.202 (talkcontribs) 13:56, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Qat

Is the mention of Qat necessary? I know it's nice to point out whenever someone makes a reference to Wikipedia, but in this article? As I recall from the episode, the Wikipedia page was shown on a laptop computer when it was passed to Pat Sajak. No person ever said the name "Wikipedia" and the entire time the web page was shown was a very few seconds, and not in a closeup. In any event, something needs to be done because the passage in this article is awkward and reads more like a trivia bit. Tinlinkin 12:19, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Jimmy Kimmel, bi-coastal host?

Right now Jimmy is apparently hosting Live while also hosting his own show (on opposite coasts) so his sleep deprivation is affecting his ... everything (some videos online show this) -- some mention in this article (or the one for Kimmel) might be good to include. 199.214.26.67 00:03, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Please check since I couldnt fix it, all I could do was add a "b" part to source #6. This should be source #7.

Also, there are many more sources and this part was deleted recently. I just re-added it with source and hope that if somebody erases it then it has valid reasons to do so. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.88.246.201 (talk) 07:07, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

The section has been removed because it was embarrassingly inaccurate and completely neglected to illustrate both sides of the "incident" (NPOV?). As most sane people have stated, it was Ripa's daughter who made the comment, and Regis was clearly referring to the apparent similarity between the words "Dominicans" and "Democrats". Get a life people. 68.191.98.191 (talk) 06:41, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Regis Philbin's renewed contract

ABC was hoing to give Regis Philbin $25 million if he renewed his Live conntract. ''YES, THIS IS TRUE!'' (talk) 3:35 AM, 22 November 2008, (UTC)

renewal contract means the show will end?

I know this is not allowed in the talk section, but with the contract of the renewal expiring in 2011, does this mean Live with Regis and Kelly will end it's run?--70.240.215.204 (talk) 02:10, 18 December 2008 (UTC)Chris

clean up needed to "Live with Regis and Kelly (2001 - present)" (and entire article for that matter)

-all the language about sharing studio with eyewitness news is now history i believe. the two shows only shared during the aftermath of the studio fire in may 2007 and any discussion of sharing belongs in the studio-fire section.
-"venerable" should be changed to "long-running."
-"unsuccessful" should be removed. the tony danza show ran for 2 years. end of discussion.
-mention of ratings increase following ripa's arrival ("according to E!") needs citation.

other sections -

-sentence about gifford appearing as guest co-host for 20th anniversary doesn't belong in "fire section."
-all references to the hosts throughout should use surname (philbin vs. regis; ripa vs. kelly). this is not a fan blog .

"On February 29, 2000, Gifford decided "

is there a citation somewhere that she made the decision on this date? or is the reality that her last show was this date after a long, much-publicized sendoff that, in some camps, was never ending? --98.116.115.220 (talk) 03:59, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

No, it should say "On February 29, 2000, it was announced that Gifford had decided..." and then continue on the topic. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.93.98.69 (talkcontribs) 0:06, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

Moving?

The part about Live moving to the same stage as The Tony Danza Show. How is that true? Where's the source?

GameGuy95 (talk) 15:10, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

I have removed the section on the article about the show's rumored move to the studio where Tony Danza did his talk show. As I have not heard any announcement about it or seen any sources online.--Chaser256 (talk) 23:10, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

Ryan Seacrest replacing Regis Philbin?

I just found a rumor that surfaced last year that Ryan Seacrest from American Idol would eventually replace Regis Philbin on Live. I don't know for sure, as I just found this out.

Damon Wayans book, Red Hats

I just purchased this book, and sat down to read it. Within the first chapter, the laungage left a bad taste in my mouth. He even used God's Name in vain before the end of chapter one. I will not finish reading the book, I will not recommend the book either. I just threw away $21.00. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.106.37.131 (talk) 00:15, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Title

Is the title of the show not Live! with Regis and Kelly? Yvesnimmo (talk) 02:12, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

No, it is stylized as Live! with Regis and Kelly in the series logo but does not include the exclamation mark in the official name, making it simply Live with Regis and Kelly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.93.98.69 (talkcontribs) 0:04, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
In point of fact, the graphic treatment onscreen reads simply live kelly & michael — no "with", and an ampersand. Per WP:COMMONNAME, the article is title Live! with Kelly and Michael. Its title within the article needs to match its title in the article title. --Tenebrae (talk) 21:31, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
See also "Title update" section at bottom of page. --Tenebrae (talk) 21:57, 30 July 2015 (UTC)

Philbin leaving the show

In the infobox, it should say Presenters: Regis Philbin (1983-present) instead of (1983-2011) as he has not yet left the show, and is still presently appearing on the show, and will be until November 18, 2011 when he leaves the show, but until then he is still a present presenter. Also, when the show returns on November 21, 2011 without Philbin, the title of the article should be changed to whatever appears in the show's logo on that date, likely Live with Kelly or Live with Kelly Ripa, because Philbin's replacement has not been announced, meaning the producers likely haven't signed one yet, otherwise they would have announced by now - my guess is that it will just be a bunch of different guest hosts until they find a new, permanent, official host. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.93.98.69 (talkcontribs) 0:04, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

A.M. Los Angeles history

The assertion of A.M. Los Angeles beginning in 1975 is not true; that was only when Philbin took over as host. Prior hosts were Stephanie Edwards and Ralph Story for much of the early 1970's, followed by Dave Michaels from 1974 to 1975 (ironically, he was dispatched by ABC to KABC after hosting WABC's A.M. New York from January to February 1974) – Philbin was Michaels' successor. I think there should be an amendment to that A.M. Los Angeles section of this entry. –Wbwn (talk) 14:33, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

Encyclopedic tone

I just finished some changes that attempted to meet Wikipedia's conventional guidelines on WP:TONE and avoid puffery and WP:PEACOCK terminology. I hope future editors avoid writing about this TV show in marketing hype such as these actual examples from the version I just tried to clean up:

  • franchise's remarkable run, extraordinary ratings, and one-of-a-kind segments unrivaled on daytime television have made Live! one of television's most outstanding success stories
  • Live! also remains an essential stop for the top names in the entertainment industry. From award-winning actors to the hottest musical acts, the show has boasted A-list celebrity guests and top-notch performances.
  • Halloween is a renowned, Emmy award-winning spectacular at Live! and one of the franchise's most talked-about traditions.
  • In a spectacular February nuptial event, Live! throws a lavish wedding for one deserving couple
  • Tony Bennett returned for one last sit-down with the one-of-a-kind team of Philbin and Ripa, sharing their personal recollections and remembering the times they've shared on Live! with the indefatigable host.
  • Joining Ripa in the new studio were various exciting and varied co-hosts from every area of broadcasting and entertainment

Undue emphasis of 9/11 in "Live! with Regis and Kelly" section

More than half this specific section is taken by a long quotation of September 11. Without belittling the gravity of the event, what does it have to do with 11 years of the show of Regis and Kelly? It adds nothing to our knowledge of the show. All the daily and weekly shows on television that ominous week passed similar statements. In retrospect, it has not much to do with what the show is all about. I think one or two sentence reference to 9/11 is good enough information. No need for the full quotation. I suggest a brief one-line remark within text and passing to more relevant matters about the 11 years of that show. werldwayd (talk) 21:25, 19 November 2012 (UTC) werldwayd (talk) 21:26, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: no consenus. Title update

The closing specified that the name remains Live! with Kelly and Michael. Someone apparently tried to shoehorn the name they preferred into the article, and that is completely inappropriate. The show's name in the article matches the title of the article. Someone trying to sneak in their preferred version when they didn't get their way on the move proposal ... wow.--Tenebrae (talk) 21:38, 30 July 2015 (UTC)

That said, the article's title may need to be revisited. I'm seeing the show's title rendered in text in a variety of ways. Live! with Kelly and Michael (People), Live! With Kelly and Michael (Us Weekly), LIVE! with Kelly and Michael (its social media here) and LIVE with Kelly and Michael (its social media here). This is a mess that needs to be sorted out, which will take time and more editors than me. This is just a start to the discussion. --Tenebrae (talk) 21:55, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
And a press release from ABC, which I guess will be at futoncritic.com soon, gives this:

MERYL STREEP, JASON SEGEL AND SALMA HAYEK HEADLINE GUEST LINEUP FOR THE WEEK OF AUGUST 3-7, 2015, ON “LIVE WITH KELLY AND MICHAEL”

NEW YORK, NY – July 30, 2015 – Nationally syndicated morning talk show “LIVE with Kelly and Michael” announces the lineup of guests appearing on the show the week of August 3-7, 2015.

And with MOS about trademark caps, that looks like the title should be Live with Kelly and Michael. Thoughts? --Tenebrae (talk) 22:21, 30 July 2015 (UTC)

Live! with Kelly and MichaelLive (talk show) – :Live has had many different hosts. Regis Philbin hosted the show for almost 30 years. Kathie Lee hosted for 15 years. Michael Strahan has only been around for 3 years. It doesn't make sense to use the name that has only been used for a relatively very short period of time. Since this article reflects the entire overview of the series and all of the different hosts that the show has had, it makes more sense to use a neutral title. JDDJS (talk) 14:50, 24 October 2015 (UTC) Relisted. Jenks24 (talk) 04:55, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

  • Oppose. Despite the name changes as the hosts have changed, I see no reason to use an unnatural title. For what it's worth, I also feel the proposed title could be confused with a generic article on talk shows that air live. Calidum 23:40, 25 October 2015 (UTC)
  • Oppose per Calidum; proposed title can be interpreted as the topic of having a live talk show (instead of a taped one) the current one is more recognizable. -- 70.51.44.60 (talk) 05:41, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
  • Comment. This is a tricky one. Oppose Live (talk show) as per above but looking at Google Books Live with Regis and Kelly [1] has three time more results than Live with Kelly and Michael [2]. In modern usage the current name is about 13 times more common viewing Google News [3] vs. [4]. Seeing as the origin of the show is clearly mentioned in the lede I'm leaning towards oppose. Live! With Kelly

The title of the Wikipedia needs changed to Live! With Kelly but its is semi protected so nobody can fix it! Yeah I guess technically it should be LIVE with Kelly. This needs updated so please fix it someone! We need the new logo and new name. Plus the first time it was called Live! With Kelly and the second time it is called LIVE with Kelly so that needs to be changed in the previous names of the show area. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brantryan (talkcontribs) 23:30, 16 May 2016 (UTC)

Can someone please update the show title and logo! And move the Live! With Kelly and Michael logo down to the bottom where it talks about its time more indepth — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brantryan (talkcontribs) 20:35, 17 May 2016 (UTC)

According to the official site at http://livekelly.com/show-info/faq/, the show LIVE with Kelly ("For info on how to obtain tickets for LIVE with Kelly, please click here.") but per MOS, we would render it Live with Kelly, just as we render it Time magazine and not TIME magazine.
In keeping with that example, the first line in the article should be: Live with Kelly (styled onscreen as live kelly).... --Tenebrae (talk) 21:22, 17 May 2016 (UTC)

Live! with KellyLive with Kelly@Tenebrae, Brantryan, and Joex: Asked in my user talk page, and see above. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 04:19, 27 May 2016 (UTC)

  • Support. Several name formats seem to have been widely used by the press including "Live! with Kelly", "LIVE with Kelly", and "Live with Kelly". Of these, WP:MOSTM would favor the more typographically normal choice, which in this case would be "Live with Kelly". Dragons flight (talk) 07:36, 27 May 2016 (UTC)
  • Support. Just to say so formally in the context of this move request. As Anthony graciously noted, I mentioned on his talk page that the official site, http://livekelly.com/#, seems to prefer no exclamation point, as in front-page text treatments for: "LIVE's Best Halloween show Ever...Seriously", "LIVE Video Archive" and "TOP LIVE VIDEOS". @Mikysilva94 and Zanimum:, I am a little confused. There's a List of Live episodes article, that seems to need some work... and then individuals articles like Live! with Regis and Kelly (season 16), 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 -- some "Live! with" and others "Live with".

Shouldn't the List of Live episodes be a list of seasons with the links to those articles, with red links for the pages not yet created?

Another option is to roll the episodes into one list like List of Scandal episodes, as is started here for seasons 26+ but that would make a very long page. Right now, the two different approaches is confusing.–CaroleHenson (talk) 17:02, 16 March 2017 (UTC)
