Renaming proposal
[edit]In order to readily distinguish local government areas from settled places, I propose renaming all of the local government areas as "Foo Local Government Area" as Aba North and Eleme, Rivers were formerly named. This would relieve us of any further need to disambiguate Nigeria's local government areas. It has the further advantage that it alerts the reader that they are now reading about a city or town, but a (usually) larger area. In those cases where a LGA is fully urbanized, it would automatically distinguish the town from the LGA. In the cases where LGAs have the same name as a people or tribe, or a language, this would automatically make that distinction. --Bejnar (talk) 19:34, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
- Weak disagree. It is hard to object on principle given that we would leave the redirect from "Foo" to "Foo Local Government Area". But in a lot of cases the LGA is just a small town and the surrounding villages. There may never be that much to say about either the town or the LGA. I would not want to see someone conscientiously turning the "Foo" redirects into stubs for the towns virtually identical to the stubs for the LGAs. That would be annoying to the reader. No problem if there are real articles with different content on the LGA and the town. Maybe the renaming should be done as the stubs are expanded into enough content to justify two articles? See Ixtepec, Oaxaca for an example of handling the same problem in a different country. Aymatth2 (talk) 20:28, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
Edo State
[edit]The Map of Nigeria outlining its states and LGAs shows 12 LGAs for Edo State. However, the writer lists 18 LGAs. Is this the most up-to-date map of the current LGAs of Edo State? nik (talk) 00:59, 18 August 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.100.214.17 (talk) 00:31, 18 August 2011 (UTC)

Number of LGAs
[edit]The article says the country has 775 local government areas. The external document cited says it's 774. As a Nigerian, I've always known them to be 774. When did this change? Is this a typo or what? I'm editing it, but open to counter-arguments. — BroVic (talk) 14:14, 12 April 2021 (UTC)

LCDA
[edit]What are LCDAs? I see them mentioned on a bunch of Lago LGA articles, but it's never explained what they are, whether they are formal administrative divisions or simply statistical divisions. Criticalthinker (talk) 09:33, 3 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Criticalthinker these are formal administrative divisions created at the State level e.g. in Lagos and Nasarawa, but are not recognized by the Grundnorm i.e. the Nigerian Constitution, 1999 (as amended). BroVic (talk) 16:59, 3 March 2023 (UTC)
- @BroVicAre there any links to the law on this; anything that can be used as a source? Are they subdivisions of LGAs, or are they independent of and can cross LGA boundaries? This seems like something worth of either its own article, or a pretty substantial section in the LGA article. I notice on some Lagos LGA pages - such as the Lagos Island or Eti-Osa LGA articles - it speaking to how part of an LGA was "split off" as a LCDA or how the LGA only covers "part of the island," but that doesn't sound like the right or accurate way to describe it, right? --Criticalthinker (talk) 06:40, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
