[edit]I suspect that Langabhat just means "long lake". I have a source for the vatn element but not the lang. Ben MacDui 18:17, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
- possibly long water - see vat Finavon (talk) 19:55, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
- You could use Mac an Tàilleir for circumstantial evidence of the lang- element overwhelmingly being "long" but I don't have anything specifically referring to Langabhat I'm afraid. Akerbeltz (talk) 01:04, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
- OK and thanks. Ben MacDui 10:12, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

You're welcome - I tweaked it a bit, the whole thing is Norse via Gaelic, including lang which you only get in loans in Gaelic. Akerbeltz (talk) 11:10, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
- ... "lang" is also Scots, but I doot that wis involved ma'sel. (Although this would mean "I definitely think it was involved myself" in Orcadian.....). Ben MacDui 14:29, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

Langavat > Langabhat
[edit]i know Langavat is technically the correct english spelling, but i feel the page name should be changed as it doesn't really reflect how the lochs are referred to in english (usually same as gaelic Langabhat rather than Langavat, including on the page itself) Clydiee (talk) 01:03, 11 August 2024 (UTC)
- Can you say what you think the difference in pronunciation is? I would have thought they were very similar. Ben MacDui 07:59, 11 August 2024 (UTC)
