I'll review this over the coming week. Hog Farm Talk 23:44, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • "He played travel baseball in his youth and did not have a hitting coach, instead training exclusively with his father." - the interview this is sourced talks about him training with the travel team people as well
  • "He was later awarded a high-school-level Gold Glove Award, recognizing him as the top high school catcher in the country" - I'm assuming this is primarily a defensive award like the main Gold Glove, right? In which case I'd recommend stating that - the current phrasing makes this sound like this is pointing him out as the best all-around catcher
  • "O'Hoppe made his professional debut in the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League (GCL) with the GCL Phillies. In his first game, O'Hoppe went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run" - the cited box score doesn't really support that this was his professional debut
  • "At the start of the 2019 season, O'Hoppe was promoted to the Low-A Williamsport Crosscutters of the New York–Penn League (NYPL)" - I'd add another b-ref citation after this sentence, as this material isn't support by the ASG box score
  • Phillies farm director Josh Bonifay praised O'Hoppe's work at the site, saying that his bat-to-ball skills were top in the organization - Bonifay's quote about O'Hoppe in the article was He really made great improvements in his bat-to-ball skills. [...] He's physically matured and showed he can hit velocity. He's improved his swing decision and ability to impact the ball and his receiving continues to improve, all while showing he's a great teammate. The top bat-to-ball quote is referring to Rafael Marchan
  • " going 4-for-21 (.196)" - 4 for 21 is not .196. B-ref rounds it to .191, MiLB rounds to .190
  • "He spent the final six games of the season with Lehigh Valley," - I'd rephrase this. He played in six games for Lehigh Valley but based on the sources cited we can't assume that those were the last six games of the season - he could have played in six of seven, especially as a catcher

More comments to follow later. Hog Farm Talk 04:44, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • " In his first seven games with the team, he hit five home runs. " - not in the next citation (b-ref), I can't access the Athletic source to see if it is in there
  • "and a 1.147 on-base plus slugging (OPS), the highest in his minor league career" - recommend adding something to indicate that this was as of that time; he technically had a higher one in '23 in two games with Salt Lake and that way people can't quibble over what small sample size is too small to count
  • "During the Southern League postseason, he went 2-for-10 (.200) with an RBI in three games" - this is likewise not in the following b-ref source

That's it for the first read-through. Hog Farm Talk 22:21, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hog Farm, the requested changes have been implemented. Let me know if there are any outstanding issues. Sewageboy (talk) 01:42, 28 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Improved to Good Article status by Sewageboy (talk). Self-nominated at 06:05, 1 February 2024 (UTC). Post-promotion hook changes for this nom will be logged at Template talk:Did you know nominations/Logan O'Hoppe; consider watching this nomination, if it is successful, until the hook appears on the Main Page.[reply]

  • More of a comment than a review, but the hook is 199 characters. It's just below the acceptable limit, but given the length it might be a good idea to make it shorter/more concise if possible. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 09:52, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    • Regarding the hook, I'd suggest dropping "rival" since we don't claim that in the article; removing that and maybe the Orioles team name should make it concise enough. The hook is interesting (at least to me), and the article reached GA yesterday as of this comment and is well-cited and well-formatted overall. There are still a couple of things needed, from spot-checks of sources (in which I saw no paraphrasing concerns). The reference for the hook fact doesn't say anything about throwing balls back on the field being common practice, so that bit should be cited by something else or removed from the article. Ref 8 doesn't say he was the 677th pick, so we could use an additional cite there. Also, a QPQ review is still needed. Giants2008 (Talk) 01:27, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
