plot[edit]

The plot description is a word-for-word copy of the novel's wikipedia entry, which does more to set up the characters' background stories and their personalities than to talk about the film's plot. It serves little purpose as a plot summary... 131.156.23.51 (talk) 20:09, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The setup is actually good, but the description is woefully incomplete. And the statement "He is the Western version of Captain Ahab whose reckless stubbornness ends in tragedy." is a real stretch. Woodrow F. Call might be stubborn -- but what tragedy? One can only draw a vague parallel between him and Ahab. Call is the rough equivalent of Charles Goodnight, who can hardly be considered a tragic character. WilliamSommerwerck (talk) 01:36, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

cast[edit]

On the rolling credits at the end of each segment James McMurtry, the son of Larry McMurtry the original author of the Lonesome Dove books, is credited with a role. I can only remember one scene where he actually appears, which is the scene when they reach Ogallala. and proceed to look for the town whores, when they do one of the cattlemen decides against it, that cattleman is played by James McMurtry, but maybe it would be good to add this informationto the article? 71.96.87.235 (talk) 22:33, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

John Ware the inspiration for Joshua Deets?[edit]

Was John Ware the inspiration for Joshua Deets in the TV mini-series Lonesome Dove? My aunt seems to think so, though unless there's a passage in the book that says otherwise he doesn't ever seem to go to Canada in the show. Any interviews, biographies, etc. explain who, if anyone, inspired Joshua Deets?
