East of the river Scheldt[edit]

Once and for all: Lower Lorraine was east of the river Scheldt in the Holy Roman Empire. West of the Scheldt the largest part of the County of Flanders which belonged to the Kingdom of France could be found. A small part of Flanders ('s Rijks Vlaanderen) laid east of the Scheldt but it belonged to the Holy Roman Empire. Dirk math (talk) 19:02, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

FWIW, Part of Cambrai's official long-term territory stretched west of the Scheldt. But I agree on the basic point.--Andrew Lancaster (talk) 07:09, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Article name[edit]

I think Lorraine is a confusing term for this period and not the one normally used by historians writing in English. Lotharingia would be better? For the time being WP is inconsistent, but I think most better articles also use Lotharingia. I'll post a few such messages on articles where I notice examples.--Andrew Lancaster (talk) 07:07, 14 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. I am making the move. Arrasarro (talk) 14:41, 18 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Arrasarro. The name Lorraine may be incorrect but Lower (Northern) Lotharingia is worse and I doubt that it is what Andrew Lancaster meant. It should be at Lower Lotharingia or Northern Lotharingia. Open a proper move discussion to get consensus. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva

I am fine with Northern Lotharingia or Lower Lotharingia, slightly favoring the first. I opened a move motion. Arrasarro (talk) 12:58, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think I've ever seen the term "Northern Lotharingia", but "Lower Lotharingia" is clearly a common and clear term?--Andrew Lancaster (talk) 13:16, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okay then, I'm convinced. I'm changing my move request to propose "Lower Lotharingia" rather than "Northern Lotharingia". Arrasarro (talk) 13:41, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
