Until the team moves into the new stadium, the current home field is still Geppi-Aikens. I am rectifying this; listing the stadium as the Ridley Complex should be held off until the date when the team is scheduled to play its first game there (Spring 2010, I believe). They still have the 2009 season to play at Geppi-Aikens. Baccaga (talk) 12:31, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is it worth putting up a roster?Cmym410 (talk) 15:53, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't put one up on Wikipedia... maybe a link to the Loyola website with the current roster? Besides, you can't tell who's on the team for sure or not until the beginning of September... Baccaga (talk) 14:04, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Respectfully, the part added in the 2007-Present section regarding the North Charles Elite and moreover, the individuals responsible for starting it, have no place in this page. There are many good Greyhound players that haven't even been mentioned on the page, so a part about a fan club and who created it needs to be deleted. Baccaga (talk) 14:44, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • The North Charles Elite is a large part of Loyola Men's Soccer. Mettrick is utilizing them as a marketing tool because of the support that they have been able to rally around the school. The N.C.E. is started by two former recruits and Mettrick, as well as the rest of the Athletic Department including A.D. Joe Boylan, holds them in high esteem. Not having them on this page would be a slap in the face. Before they arrived, attendance was way down, but they have been able to create a buzz and a tremendous atmosphere that needs to be noted on this page.Interzil (talk) 17:40, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Attendance was way down because the team didn't win games. Loyola Soccer has always had good attendance when it has had a great season. If you want to create a Wikipedia page for this fan club, go right ahead, but it does not meet any Wikipedia criteria of notoriety. I am fine with a quick mention of it but anything more has no place on this page. Again, only the best players in Loyola Soccer history are even mentioned on the page, so it's not fruitful to list the people who created a fan club, as great and supportive as it might be. Baccaga (talk) 12:23, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
First off, the people who created the N.C.E. are not listed. Secondly, do you know Mettrick personally? If you do I suggest you ask him about the attendance situation and he will tell you that the group of students that have organized themselves into an official, school sponsored club have made a HUGE difference in game attendance. Busloads of students go to AWAY games because of school funding and Mettrick's personal strategy for increasing the student body's interest in the team. Lastly, if the 'best' players in the school's history are not mentioned on the page, put them up; it will help the article tremendously. But don't keep deleting N.C.E. information, it has been a HUGE change in the way that students look at college soccer and is a strong club that continues to support the 'Hounds. Oh and another thing, Loyola's colors are grey and green. The fact that their away jerseys are white are completely irrelevant. You have no exterior proof that the official colors are green and white instead of green and grey, please stop changing it; you're wrong.Interzil (talk) 01:58, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I do know Mettrick personally and perhaps I have a more intimate knowledge of Loyola Soccer and its history than you realize, having started for Loyola for 4 years. I am well aware of yearly attendance fluctuations based on team performance not from guesses or what I have read, but instead have been witness to the situation.
To address your particular points - I have no problem with discussion but discussion that is reasonable and responsible.
School vs. team colors: What proof would you have that the team colors are green and grey? Have you ever seen Loyola Soccer represented in grey? It's like saying that Italy's national team colors are red/white/green instead of blue and white; yes, the country is generally represented as red/white/green, but the national team is known as the "Azzurri" (blues) and team colors are blue and white.
Attendance/NCE Club: I am not going to disagree with you that with respect to the short-term, the club has assisted in raising attendance, but I am sure that you are basing that on comparisons from perhaps the 2005/2006 seasons as opposed to those of 2007/2008. However, you need to look to the history of Loyola soccer and realize that attendance was just as good the last time that the team was nationally ranked (2000-2002) and furthermore, is nothing compared to 15-20 years ago. If you've ever been down to Mettrick's office (and I don't know if the picture is still there or not), but there is an old photo of people having to hang from trees over the fence of Geppi-Aikens (then Curley) field just to see the game as there was absolutely no space in the stands. Fans have always gone to away games when the team wins; i.e. in 2001, two buses of fans went out to St. Louis for a NCAA Tournament game... we're not talking Towson or MD but a 15 hour drive to Missouri.
Despite what you might think, it's not my intention to discredit this NCE Club. However, while it might be an official club/organization of Loyola College, it is not the "official" fan club of Loyola Soccer. Are you even aware of the existence of the "Loyola Soccer Club"? If not, you might want to do a little research on the subject. Furthermore, from the article regarding the NCE, it was stated that this club was started by walk-ons, not recruits... there's a significant difference there. Regardless, I would be happy to "compromise" with you... why don't we create a small section just regarding Loyola fan support within the Loyola Soccer page? If you have a picture of Loyola fans or the club founders or whatever at a game, you can upload it to Wiki and it can then be inserted in the article. Let me know. I added a specific section to the page dealing with team support. I think it resolves controversy as discussed above. I would like a picture of rabid and rowdy fans at a Loyola game to be placed in that section if anybody has anything available. Baccaga (talk) 12:45, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
