Bias?[edit]

There have been multiple edits since inception of the Luann article by people attempting to insert comments to the effect of: this comic strip is liberally-biased. Unlike, say, Mallard Fillmore or Doonesbury, the Luann comic strip does not overtly mention politics or overtly take a side in political debate as opposed to Mallard Fillmore and Doonesbury, which directly lampoon their intended political targets. Because of this lack of overt political content, it is inappropriate to insert any formulation of "liberally-biased" into this article. This is especially true if "conservatively-biased" does not appear in the Mallard Fillmore Wikipedia article in reference to Mallard Fillmore's inflammatory depiction of Garry Trudeau as a Hostess Twinkie or shocking presentation of a fetus for anti-abortion statements or in favorable references to Ann Coulter. The Luann comic strip is not contaminated with any overt political content that fills Mallard Fillmore and Doonesbury. Keep politics out of this Luann article. Political agendas have no place here. Of course, being immune to the massive amount of (neo-)conservative propaganda that is in vogue in the USA nowadays might itself be perverted by propagandists as some form of political position worthy of attack. Being completely immune from politics is the only way that Luann is political. optikos 09:19 04 December 2005

Delta's race[edit]

Why is it necessary to specify Delta's race and nobody else's? It seems that her race is irrelevant to the comic strip. If we don't mention any features of anybody else's external appearance, then why bring up race?

Point taken. Since her race seems irrelevant as far as Luann is concerned, I'll edit the article to make it as colorblind as she is. A10brown 17:53, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sheraton St. Louis gag[edit]

The hyperlink under Sheraton St. Louis is suppose to be a gag on a hotel in St. Louis under the Sheraton brand. That explains why Starwood Hotels was the link for that name.

Onion reference[edit]

Does anyone know for certain that the interview with Evans in The Onion really was satire? While most of The Onion 's contents are fake, it does occasionally publish non-fake stories (such as "Muscleman Becomes Governor of California") in order to highlight the perceived surreality of a real-life story. I wonder whether the Luanne article was one of these? Has anyone checked with Evans? Mortimer

I'm pretty sure the Onion is just making fun of the comic.

Yeah, just look at the "notebook page," if The Onion's wry sarcasm passes you by... (http://www.theonion.com/content/node/38635) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.105.94.94 (talk) 07:01, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures[edit]

Why has this article no pictures?! I think it would be 143786 times better with a few. thesublime514talk • 05:15, July 12, 2007 (UTC)

Meals for Firefighters[edit]

Why was Tiffany dethroned as ms CoC for that? I thought it was a charitable service, as opposed to a scam? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.111.242.200 (talk) 23:51, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • It WAS a scam that she had worked with alongside T.J., and Tiffany didn't return the money she took (T.J., however, did). And as a result, not only she was dethroned, any mention she was Miss Chamber of Commerce was removed. Elwin Blaine Coldiron (talk) 03:12, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Where is TJ's family?[edit]

The 7/1/08 strip states that TJ has no family. But then, where did he live before moving in with Brad? 198.6.46.11 (talk) 15:58, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Elwood Druit[edit]

I think he definitely needs to be removed from "One time characters" as he's been making a number of appearances lately and in recent months. I'd edit it myself, but I don't have a Wikipedia account any more 72.91.48.24 (talk) 15:53, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

True. I've moved him to the "Love Interests", since he is interested in Luann, even though she doesn't seem interested in him. Vgranucci (talk) 00:25, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Shannon Daytona?[edit]

I think she has to be moved away from "one time characters" and moved to "friends, relatives" section, she has a better reason to be at Friends section than Rosa Aragones who has only appeared at most 2 weeks at the strip Verdad1963 (talk) 08:40, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, we know that Lindy's(Shannon's cousin) mom is Mrs. Lewis, and that Shannon's mom is Mrs. Lewis' sister,(January 1996 strips) so unless by coincidence both married guys of same last name, there has no been any establishment that Shannon's last name is Lewis (per the strips in 1996 and 1995) Verdad1963 (talk) 23:56, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

wow!!! we in a dilemma.................. should we "merge the info from 96 and 97" to the shannon who is according to the strip on this last 2 weeks, the niece of Toni Daytona, not the cousin as Toni stated a few years ago?, or we have to consider it as a "Shannon 1" and a "Shannon 2"? now Greg established this last 2 weeks that Toni's brother is the unmarried father of Shannon Daytona (as we have to guess that he gave his last name to his daughter), and that both Toni and her brother were raised by their aunt, as their parents died on a car crash.........n any thoughts about how to do this? make it only one Shannon? or make it 2 different Shannons? one related to Toni, and the other to Mrs. Lewis and her daughter Lindy? Verdad1963 (talk) 08:35, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I moved it as no one has discussed this issue. and put Daytona in a question mark, as we waiting to see if she took her father's last name Verdad1963 (talk) 23:13, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Shannon should be revised to reflect Greg's official statement on his blog that the Shannon Lewis and Toni's niece are not the same character, even though he recycled the image/name. Rybarra (talk) 20:45, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Luann's Parents[edit]

Shouldn't the comment about Luann's mother's being unable to make Luann clean her room? It seems irrelevant; I think that if there are recurring "themes" then those themes should have their own section. MathMaven (talk) 13:09, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Musical[edit]

It should be noted that a musical simply titled "Luann" was published in 1985, written by Eleanor & Ray Harder and based on the characters from the Luann comic strip. Ann Eiffiel[edit]

FACT that she is either lesbian or maybe bisexual was confirmed by Greg Evans to me by email about 9 months ago, and also on his blog http://thecartooniststudio.com/Blogs/greg/Archives/2010/9/26/EasyHardImpossible/Comments Verdad1963 (talk) 16:33, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'll be reverting my action in a moment, but in the future, don't defend added material by claiming that the artist sent you an email. I have no way of verifying that email, nor does any other editor here, or the millions of readers who read the article. The key word of the previous sentence was verifiable, since it directly relates to one of our core policies of only having material that is explicitly verifiable. Your noting of Evans' blog post where he addresses this in no uncertain terms fulfills our criteria for inclusion. A claimed email to you does not. Also, citing the statement doesn't hurt, either. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 14:50, 16 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Overdosed on marijuana?[edit]

In the Antagonists section that concerns Derek, it was mentioned that he almost crashed while driving Bernice home because he had "overdosed" on marijuana. It is my opinion that a better description would be that Derek was "under the influence" of marijuana. It is nearly impossible to overdose in the classic sense on marijuana, though one can certainly be heavily "influenced" if one smokes enough of it or the cannabis that is smoked is very high potency. I reference here another Wiki article that states this, with its source at the end of the article... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannabis_(drug)"According to the Merck Index, 12th edition, the LD50, the lethal dose for 50% of tested rats, is 42 milligrams per kilogram of body weight. That is equivalent, for a 75 kg (≈165 lb). male, to ingest all of the THC in 21 one-gram cigarettes of maximum-potency (15% THC) cannabis buds, assuming no THC was lost through burning or exhalation. For oral consumption, the LD50 for rats is 1270 mg/kg and 730 mg/kg for males and females, respectively, equivalent to the THC in about a pound of 15% THC cannabis. Only with intravenous administration— an unheard of method of use by humans— may such a level be even theoretically possible." 70.251.115.25 (talk) 07:51, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Location?[edit]

The June 10, 2013, strip shows Luann and her father driving to an airport which looks like Washington Dulles' main terminal and old air traffic control tower (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/92/Washington_Dulles_International_Airport_at_Dusk.jpg/250px-Washington_Dulles_International_Airport_at_Dusk.jpg), even if the signage isn't correct. What about Piro?[edit]

One character I recall who showed up a number of times is Piro, an apparently homeless student who would sleep in Bernice's dorm room. That's about all I remember about him and was hoping to find more information in this article. ~Anachronist (talk) 04:07, 3 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Delta's love interest[edit]

Didn't Delta have a brief love interest in a young black guy (possibly older?) who briefly visited/attended the high school? I don't recall the details, other than that no relationship ever developed between them. — Loadmaster (talk) 14:06, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Point of View Concerns[edit]

A Point of View template was added to the page in April 2023 - this adds a banner stating "The neutrality of this article is disputed. Relevant discussion may be found on the talk page". There was no discussion on this page from that. The only reference to Point of View that I can find is the Talk:Luann (comic strip)#Bias?, which addresses text currently removed from the article. Since there is no discussion of Point of View concerns here on the talk page, I'm removing the template, but if you have Point of View concerns, please add them here.
