The information for the interview comes from the book BLACK INDIAN SLAVE NARRATIONS by Patrick Minges. The section about Lucinda Davis is on pages 116-128 with thedecription of sofki on page 120. The quote from the book below.

"When you make de sofki, you pound up de corn real fine, then pour in the de water, and drain it off to get all de little skin from off'n de grain. Den you let de grits soak and then bile (boil) it, andlet it stand. Sometimes you put in some pounded hickory-nut meats.
