Spelling: Franklin Harbour/Franklin Harbor
[edit]The name of the geographical feature and the local government area have the "Franklin Harbour" spelling, while some recent government documents refer to the "Franklin Harbor Marine Park". "Harbour" is the normal Australian spelling - there are only two localities is South Australia which omit the "u" - Outer Harbor and Victor Harbor, and even in the latter case there are inconsistencies in official use. - Thanks for drawing attention to this. What would you suggest is the best way to standardise or otherwise address this inconsistency? Danimations (talk) 05:29, 8 December 2013 (UTC)
- I just checked the Lands Titles Office's website @ Property Location Browser and it confirms the following: the District Council is spelled Franklin Harbour, but the other assets, the Franklin Harbor Conservation Park and the Franklin Harbor Marine Park are both spelled without the 'u'. Perhaps this is a matter which could be put to the Franklin Harbour District Council, or to the State Government to address? It would be good to have statewide consistency on this matter. Regrettably, there will probably be some resistance due to the expense involved with changing signage, letter heads, publications etc. Danimations (talk) 05:38, 8 December 2013 (UTC)
- Another useful resource is the SA Government's PlaceNames Online gazeteer, which shows one search result for "Franklin Harbour", and four for "Franklin Harbor". I'm sending a query to the Geographical Names Unit, to find the correct usage. Cheers, Bahudhara (talk) 04:53, 10 December 2013 (UTC)
