NPOV Jan 6 2020

[edit]

You can't have an article that says nothing more than "this person has been accused of corruption" --LaserLegs (talk) 10:25, 6 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@LaserLegs: I agree. I have made major additions to the article, which I hope have addressed your concerns. If not, please feel free to restore the tag or ask me to self-revert, and we can discuss further. --David Tornheim (talk) 14:18, 6 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@LaserLegs: For this article, no. However, if a person is highly notable for several corruption scandals, I think that article would be fine. Kingsif (talk) 17:59, 6 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
WP:BLPCRIME is a thing, you can't wish it away. Fix the article. --LaserLegs (talk) 19:43, 6 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@LaserLegs: He's a public figure. You can go ahead and make (or propose) changes, but they may be reverted. --David Tornheim (talk) 19:52, 6 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Laser: You know BLPCRIME isn't about not making bios for notorious criminals (what I suggested could happen, as an exclusion to your first statement). It's about not adding details of alleged crimes to bios of non-public figures if it could be wrong. That's not even happening here, and certainly wouldn't for someone primarily notable as a criminal. Nobody's wishing away BLPCRIME, they're reading it correctly. Fix it yourself. Kingsif (talk) 22:22, 6 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@LaserLegs: Parra is a public figure whose accusations have had major coverage by reliable sources, specially after 5 January events, and who is not only known for these accusations. I included a mention on Armando.Info's investigation. I personally think it should be specified that he's accused of helping corrupt businesspeople, not being involved in the corruption scheme per se, but that being said I think the tag should be removed because of this. --Jamez42 (talk) 22:50, 7 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@LaserLegs: It's been some time since I last commented about this. Is there any other issue that could be addressed before removing the tag? --Jamez42 (talk) 17:49, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Significance--Presidency

[edit]

I disagree that who is President of Venezuela is insignificant. Hence, I disagree with this removal by MaoGo. New sources will probably continue to arise that are even better than the one that is in the material he removed. --David Tornheim (talk) 19:57, 6 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Controversy

[edit]

I see no reason to title the body of the article "Controversy". We should use WP:NPOV titles. It suggests that Wikipedia is judging what happened. Hence I disagree with the addition of that section title. The other section titles that MaoGo changed make sense. --David Tornheim (talk) 20:00, 6 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Lots of BLPs have sections titled 'Controversies', for controversial things it certainly is NPOV. It probably shouldn't be the only section, but if there's little else to write about... Kingsif (talk) 22:24, 6 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox subtitles and normalization

[edit]

A discussion involving this article has been started in the 2020 Venezuelan National Assembly Delegated Committee election article talk page. --Jamez42 (talk) 21:55, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
