Disambiguation Needed

[edit]

Lujon may refer to seferal different things:

  • A musical composition by Henry Mancini
  • An African bass percussion instrument of the lamellaphone family
  • A character in the comic series "Full Metal Alchemist"
  • A township in the Durango state of Mexico

I came to the Mancini article while looking for information on the muiscal instrument.

It's not clear to me that the lujon is in fact an African instrument, as opposed to an American instrument named as a pun on John Lewis. Since both are apparently bass percussion instruments, it seems unlikely that both are true. There seems to be more evidence for the pun (e.g., a person claiming to actually have built the first Lujon for John Lewis at http://chris.quietlife.net/2006/04/23/ode-to-lujon/#comment-153685219). Can't find any evidence for the African instrument other than an offhand comment here and there. I welcome correction. SlubGlub (talk) 00:34, 20 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Inspiration for Lujon

[edit]

In 2009, William Loughborough recounted the origin of Mancini's "Lujon" in a discussion thread about the song at http://chris.quietlife.net/2006/04/23/ode-to-lujon/. William Loughborough • 4 years ago − I just came across this thread and would like to add a bit of history. Henry Mancini's drummer, Shelley Manne had several drums I made and one of them was the Lujon (a pun on "John Lewis" who bought the first one). Mancini was very impressed with the instrument and wrote this piece using its scale as the theme.

It's rewarding to find its sound being so widely appreciated after 50 years! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.208.198.165 (talk) 14:01, 17 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
