Correct title of the film

[edit]

I believe this article should be renamed, either to Lumumba or Lumumba (film). (The current name of the article is The Rise and Violent Fall of Patrice Lumumba.)

The director, Raoul Peck (fr:Raoul Peck), made at least two films relating to Patrice Lumumba:

  • Lumumba: La mort du prophète (1992), a documentary [1], and
  • Lumumba (2000), a biographical drama [2].

I am pretty sure there was never any film entitled "The Rise and Violent Fall of Patrice Lumumba". Perhaps the confusion arose because that phrase was used as the headline of a New York Times op-ed piece discussing the film Lumumba [3].

In the French Wikipedia, the article on the film is at fr:Lumumba (film).

Any comments? If none I will go ahead and move this article to a new name. --Mathew5000 18:53, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have a VHS copy of the earlier documentary film in my possession and that is certainly not the title. The box bears the English title "Lumumba: Death of a Prophet" and the French title in the film itself is "Lumumba: La mort du prophète," which would translate more like "Lumumba: The Death of the Prophet." I have no idea where the title you are proposing comes from, and thus this article's title needs to be changed. I think the later docudrama film was simply called Lumumba. I'm not sure what you mean. We are in agreement, correct? --Mathew5000 23:25, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There are two films about Lumumba, neither of which are the title that this article has. The two new articles, one for each of the two films, should be under the proper titles. I'll fix the "Lumumba" redirect. Badagnani 06:41, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you can go ahead and move this one to the correct title (the French one, which IMDB has). There will need to be a page for the fictionalized film Lumumba as well. I fixed the Lumumba page, which you can check and add any other Lumumba-related pages. Badagnani 06:49, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I expanded the article with a bit of information about the 2000 film (the fictionalized one) and moved it to Lumumba (film). Wikipedia does not (yet) have an article on Peck's 1992 documentary. Actually Wikipedia does not even have an article on Raoul Peck; the French article on him (fr:Raoul Peck) is fairly long but I don't have the patience to translate it. --Mathew5000 07:13, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
