Routes

[edit]

I understand the 1939 timetable is available. I suggest that this section lists the routes where luxtorpedas operated in summer 1930. As it stands, I find it hard to believe five cars served so many destination at the same time.

You are right, it is hard to imagine and I also have doubts. However, I checked the 1939 Polish Rail Schedule and I found all MtE trains. Or perhaps, in the Lwow area MtE trains were not luxtorpedas? I don't really know. Also - is it sure beoynd doubt there were only 5 of these trains in the whole country? Tymek 18:07, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Pokropiński and the Fablok web site say only 5 units were produced in Poland. There is conflicting info whether 1 or 2 units were imported from Austria (if two, one was returned??). According to Pokropiński, in 1932 there were 5 other (pre-luxtorpeda) petrol railcars for local traffic. It's likely some of them were still in use in 1939. Around Lwow maybe ?? Anyway, I think this section needs some toning down ...

I guess it is impossible to determine after so many years whether all MtE trains were served by luxtorpedas. Or whether MtE trains meant same as luxtorpedas. I don't really know if we should leave it as it is or make changes in routes. However - if there are changes, what would they be? Tymek 15:59, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
According to Polish WP, they operated Krakow-Zakopane & Warsaw-Poznan routes. I suggest the English text is modified accordingly. It seems a now edition of the Pokropinski's book is available. May be there is more information there ? --Jotel 16:20, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Jotel, you removed most of the routes, I am not going to argue with it. However, I noticed on some pages that these trains also travelled from Warsaw to Lodz so perhaps restore this at least Tymek 02:21, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am not going to argue with it either: :-), so I've restored Łódź and Poznań. Of course this may the a case of a mistake in one WP's article being propagated elsewhere....--Jotel 07:41, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I know I am being a pest but what are we going to do with MtE trains travelling from Warsaw to Suwalki/Augustow and the trains from Lwow to Tarnopol, Drohobycz and Kolomyja? These trains existed, they were presented in the 1939 schedule, they travelled every day. We should not forget them, alas they had already been forgotten on all Polish net pages (perhaps because Lwow no longer belongs to Poland). Jotel, what do you say? Tymek 16:06, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to say that (a) unless somebody can find some hard evidence, adding or deleting more routes will remain guessing (b) I'm going to give up on routes, and add a bit or two on technical aspects, where I have some real data. --Jotel 17:05, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Max speed

[edit]

On the original, Austrian railcars: "During one of the demonstration runs, between Warsaw and Skierniewice, the railcar reached speed about 130 km/h (80 mph)"

vs

"The Luxtorpedas by Fablok were slightly different from their Austrian counterparts, the biggest difference being the use of more powerful diesel engines thanks to which were able to reach a speed of 115 km/h (71 mph)."

That doesn't sound right.
