Request for history section

Hey! Is there an elephant in the room, or is it just me? Every time I drive past signs for Lynch Creek Road, I find myself wondering about what sort of sordid actions took place in the past to give the creek its name. Who was lynched, and where, and when, and why? Can someone please fill in those blanks? --Greensheep (talk) 17:38, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The word "lynch" derives from Captain William Lynch, an 18th century Virginian. Most of the creeks in Sonoma County appear to be named after local landowners. Since Lynch is a common surname, it's likely that this creek was named after a landowner named Lynch. Maybe there was a relationship, maybe not. On the other hand, lynchings were not unheard of in 19th century Sonoma County. But I wouldn't publish such claims in the article without a citation.
