A good bit more could be written on the business/social significance of the yacht during Curtis' usage. Searches of the New York Times, Boston and Florida papers show numerous short notices concerning the comings and goings of the ship which was both a business and social center whenever it was present. There is considerable, and repetitious mention in Australian papers in 1940 in connection with its proposed use as a surface link between French Polynesia where Pan Am had landing rights and Australia where it was negotiating for rights. The "political situation" in Noumea is mentioned—Free French assumption of control with allied help. The brief, and not particularly spectacular Army and Navy periods are apparently largely dead ends. It was a "hotel ship" for Navy in a series of locations where the combat was past. The real significance of the ship is the Curtis period and brief, but interesting, airline history in the days before war ended the Clipper routes. Palmeira (talk) 00:40, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Merger of USS SOUTHERN SEAS (PY-32)[edit]

The separate page titled USS Southern Seas (PY-32) had a few lines for each of the periods covered on this page other than the Navy. That was a very close copy of DANFS. It also contained some errors, builder as an example. The Navy period of that page replaced the abbreviated Navy period text here with some edits to integrate all information and restore timeline. Other text and references, templates and categories were checked and integrated. Page title of Lyndonia selected to keep based on 1) original name with considerable history and notability, 2) 1920 to 1933 slightly greater than 1933 to 1945 period as Southern Seas, and 3) longest period as single owner/function. Though the yacht made news and was well known the most interesting period is perhaps the Pan American Airways when the ship was used to complete the PAA link to Australia until the air route could be established and the Army use in establishing the South Pacific air ferry route that allowed U.S. long range aircraft to reach Australia.
