William Boykin[edit]

Removed the reference to Boykin as commander of Take Force Ranger for now, General William Garrison was the commander. Not sure if Boykin might have been the Delta commander during the op.68.60.85.96 (talk) 18:56, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

POV tag[edit]

What language is not neutral? Akp623 (talk) 05:11, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Examples - "memorable stories of extraordinary people", "only crawling from his black hole with the help of God", "chronicles the criminal history of the Democratic Party, beginning with its founder, the fugitive Aaron Burr". You've removed the word 'ghostwriter', twice, and I don't understand your reasoning. 'Ghostwriter' is mentioned in several articles and best describes her role as co-author of four books.
You uploaded this image, the same one found on her website, but did you take it yourself? You added her birth date, but I'm curious as to where you found that information. APK because, he says, it's true 07:21, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I see what you mean on "memorable stories of extraordinary people". It was a description based on my reading of all her works. I changed it to "memoir".

Re "only crawling..." changed to "only being restored to health by turning to God" which is what the book is about.

Re Donkey Cons, that description comes from reading the book itself. I'm open to suggestions on alternative language, but removed description of content because the subtitle pretty much supplies that.

Re ghostwriter: there is a pervasive misunderstanding about what a ghostwriter is. Wikipedia does not do a good job of explaining this. In the publishing industry (I'm a contract book manuscript editor of 50-plus books) the term means UNSIGNED writer or co-writer. A ghostwriter is not acknowledged. Vincent has her name on all her books. It remains to be seen whether it's on the Palin book -- the cover does not show it at this point -- but she was announced from the start as Palin's collaborator. So to claim she "is a ghostwriter" is flat out wrong. And collaborators -- co-writers who get a byline -- get very heated when they're called ghostwriters.

Spike the photo; I realize now I shouldn't have taken it off the web. And I took down the birthdate; I can't remember the source so don't want to mislead.

Anything else? Akp623 (talk) 16:26, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Did you want me to add those other citations? Akp623 (talk) 16:34, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The photo has been deleted. If you would like to add the citations, that would be great. The TIME article (new links, above) discusses the ghostwriter aspect. Hmmm. I'm going to research the definition of 'ghostwriter' this evening. APK because, he says, it's true 01:00, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have added the top references. "All You Have to Do Is Dream" is an opinion piece. I see no point in adding it. The Time piece is a look at what some ghostwriters have done, and has no bearing on Vincent's work. The Charleston piece is raw speculation. "Dictated to a ghostwriter" is insulting.

Please explain why the accusation of bias has not been removed. The ghostwriting versus collaboration issue involves literary practices that are not value-laden. I am not supporting Vincent in any way by insisting on the correct term.

Thank you. Akp623 (talk) 02:48, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Is it customary for an editor labeling a new article with an NPOV thingy to take this long to evaluate the changes? I'm wondering if I am expected to do a Request Comment, or a third-party thing now. Please explain.

Akp623 (talk) 06:39, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Responding to your third opinion request there's no need for a Request for comment or some such. APK will work at the speed they can, so please be patient. In the meantime, I'd say that the NPOV tag is warranted, especially for sections such as Magazine writing, which tries to list her praise, or the lead and the final section, which reads like a promotional piece for her. If you want the tag removed, I'd suggest trying to remove any and all text that presents Vincent in anything other than a completely neutral fashion. ~ Amory (utc) 21:03, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

November 2009[edit]

In my judgement, the POV language is now gone, so I've removed the {{NPOV language}} tag. Would anyone restoring that tag please say here which sentences they object to? Thanks, CWC 10:12, 19 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Interview on YouTube[edit]

I'm moving the following External Link here for discussion:

  • [1] Lynn Vincent's first TV interview since writing "Going Rogue" with Sarah Palin

As far as I can tell, the video is a copyright violation, something Wikipedia has to be very careful about. The interview comes from KGTV (www.10News.com). It was posted to YouTube by SDNews, who posts videos from other San Diego stations and does not seem to be affiliated with KGTV. Does anyone disagree? Cheers, CWC 06:39, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
