When I scribbled this down, the only theory I'd come across was that our man was a son of Báetán f. Ninnid. But that was because I didn't look hard enough. The male prosopography in Bhreathnach (ed), Kingship and Landscape of Tara (192-3) presumes the subject to have been not Colmán Rimid's brother but rather a brother of Fiachnae mac Báetáin. Connon's female prosopography in the same book (266-7) mentions the theory which this article currently presents, but notes that it is found in C12th material which contains contradictions and improbabilities. Somebody should tell Fraser as he obviously hadn't come across this when he wrote Caledonia to Pictland or it would surely have been mentioned: more Cruthin-Corcu Réti links!
