Merge

[edit]

Hi Picantho. I note that, while you added merge tags to Máire Bhuí Ní Laoghaire and Maura Bwee O'Leary, neither links to a discussion.WP:MERGE#Step 1: Create a discussion would typically expect a discussion to be opened. While I've done that here, what specific merge approach is proposed? (Seems clear that both articles/topics overlap. And happy to weigh in and help. But, absent a discussion/proposal, is unclear what solution/action is proposed that can contribute to...) Guliolopez (talk) 22:29, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Guliolopez. Thank you for beginning a discussion here. It appears that Máire Bhuí Ní Laoghaire and Maura Bwee O'Leary refer to the same person. They have the same birth and death years, and "Máire Bhuí Ní Laoire" is an alternate name on Maura Bwee O'Leary. I think that the content from Maura Bwee O'Leary can be added to the Máire Bhuí Ní Laoire page here, as Maura Bwee O'Leary has a note about the page lacking in-text citations. Thanks. As it happens I support the merge proposal and largely agree with the approach. (That any appropriately referenced/relevant content be merged from Maura Bwee O'Leary to Máire Bhuí Ní Laoghaire. And that the former be redirected to the latter. Not only because it predates it by the guts of a decade. But because it seems more appropriately titled/referenced/stable/etc.) In terms of the content to merge, I would note (however) that, from my own review, much of the content at Maura Bwee O'Leary seems either (a) uncited, (b) editorial in tone or (c) directly conflicting with the cited text at Máire Bhuí Ní Laoghaire. As such, while I'm happy to help with the merge/redirect, I wonder if some of this (uncited/editorial/conflicting) text will be "left on the cutting-room floor"... These are clearly the same person, so I've merged the two – the only real content taken from the article at Maura Bwee O'Leary is the discussion of her publication history – which remains uncited. Caeciliusinhorto-public (talk) 11:20, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
