Massive renovation

[edit]

In these edits (minus one IP's contribution) I did a massive renovation of the article. Film titles should never have been written in ALL UPPERCASE, in many examples it looked like we went out of our way to create problematic links. Example: ''[[Maya Machhindra|MAYA MACHHINDRA]]'' would have been perfect it had been presented as ''[[Maya Machhindra]]''. So I went through and fixed all of that stuff. I also removed duplicate wikilinks per WP:OVERLINK. I removed inappropriate subjective labels like "the first movie with the great actor...", "directed by the famous American..." and similar. I removed a great deal of improperly applied bolded text per MOS:BOLDFACE. I cleaned up some of the language, but a lot of it still seems unclear. The most significant problem is the lack of adequate sources. Don't know what to do about that, but I've flagged the ones that are obviously problematic.

I don't understand the value of the unreleased films section. Firstly, it suffers from a severe shortage of references. Secondly, the language in it is confusing. "Foreseen normally in 1956". What does that mean? I see the title Naanum Oru Thozhilali, but there's no context in this filmography that explains what Ramachandra's role was supposed to be, or that gives us any indication of why the title is being included in this list. I also don't see any mention of Ramachandran at Naanum Oru Thozhilali, so again, there is a lack of useful context. I'm sure the other examples in the list have the exact same problem. I think we should delete the unreleased film section, since it doesn't provide any clear academic purpose. The only argument I can see for inclusion is if principal photography can be confirmed as having started, and if Ramachandran did work, but the film got cut. But other than that, the focus of this article should be for films that Ramachandran has actually appeared in, not ones that he did not appear in. Unless there is a well-established precedent i.e. a film-community-wide preference for including shelved titles, we should get rid of it. And did I mention that it's largely unsourced? Incoherent and irrelevant notes

[edit]

In this edit I removed two incoherent notes from the article. "After the play Advocat Amaran [4], MGR puts the magistrate gown for the first time on the screen." and "A new face and a partner for MGR, in the person of the actress Ratna." It's unclear what either of these notes mean, or what relevance they have to expand our understanding of Ramachandran's filmography. He wears a gown for the first time? So what? And what are we trying to say with the other note? That he appeared alongside Ratna for the first time? How is this significant? Did he appear with her a lot? Even if both of these facts are noteworthy, they are not written in clear, coherent English. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:10, 17 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
