New secondary source
I have a COI so can't edit this page directly. However, I recently came across an article about the first Magfest from the Roanoke Times, a solid secondary source. It's print-only, but I have uploaded it here: http://imgur.com/a/mq2do
Binary1230 (talk) 15:57, 4 March 2014 (UTC)
- This is what I (generally) dislike about local journalism. "These are some examples of interesting people I saw at this event. Then let's get a quote about the subject of the event, but not go into details about the event itself. And we can also include some arbitrary attendance numbers from very early in the morning on one of the dates." I hate to say it, but I don't know if there's much we can use here. Or else I'm just very tired, which is possible.
- If you have any example statements, feel free to write them out here and I can incorporate them into the article if they're not unduly self-serving. Cheers! Woodroar (talk) 04:29, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
WAYBACK MACHINE
minimag 12\10\05 [1]
"So, first we were going to make MiniMAG a halfway-through-the-year event, and then it wasn't going to happen at all, and now I've found out I have this space reserved on the UVA corner this weekend, so....
"MiniMAG will be all day Saturday, the 10th of December, 11am to 11pm (or somewhere close to those times), at the Satellite Ballroom in Charlottesville, VA. Entry is $10 for the whole day.
"Gaming will be had for all. Linked Mario Kart Double Dash tournament. A showing of The Wizard and other game flicks. Possibly be a music act.
"Also, we have a few new guests to announce!
"We are pleased to be the first videogame-and-not-anime convention-type-thing to host Applegeeks as a guest. Also, Brian Wilson, of the crazy Hookie Dookie Panic will also be joining in with them on our probably even crazier antics at the "videogame influences on webcomics" panel, and all around the festival in general. And we've got word that we might be seeing Matt Boyd from MacHall.
"I should point out that if anyone is interested in a panel on how these guys color their comics, let us know (just please don't say "color me interested")!"

Annual letting Magfest staff know not to edit this page directly + new sources
Hey Wikipedia Editors, this is Dom, a board member with Magfest.
I just wanted to let you know we continue to tell our own staff not to directly edit this page. I do see some recent edits by anonymous sources, not sure if that was any of our people or not. We have over 1700 volunteers around the world, and most of them aren't familiar with the wikipedia standards on submitting conflict of interest edits and need for secondary source citations. They occasionally get a little excited and start editing stuff, we try and keep an eye on it on our side.
I wanted to also link to some new potential sources we found:

new secondary source from CBC
Hi All, Dom from Magfest here (declaring Conflict Of Interest as always)
A video of a Jan 2019 Magfest panel on game industry crunch and unionization was referenced in the following places:
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-pQUocvE4Y&t=148 at time 2:27 by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
- This clip from CBC with the clip of Magfest was also re-used on Hasan Minaj's Patriot Act show on Netflix on videogame crunch, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLAi_cmly6Q
Those are some pretty great secondary references. It appears to be part of, but not referenced directly, by this article: https://www.cbc.ca/news/entertainment/burnout-crunch-canada-1.5109599
The original video that was used in those two places were sourced from our youtube channel from this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-pQUocvE4Y

- To be honest I'm not entirely sure where this would fit in the article. I appreciate it brought forth, but its a little less about MAGFest and a little more a part of another article about conditions working in the industry. Zero Serenity (talk - contributions) 13:55, 27 September 2019 (UTC)
