Talk:MIT (disambiguation)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"MIT" can mean any of the several full-forms of this acronym, as mentioned in the disambiguation page. There is no strong reason why "Massachusetts Institute of Technology" should be given so much preference that others are totally ignored. In the USA, people may mean "Massachusetts Institute of Technology" whenever they say or write "MIT". But this is not true in other countries. And Wikipedia is a global online encyclopedia, used by people all over the world. Hence, "MIT" has been redirected to MIT (disambiguation), instead of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. --Sarthak Sharma (talk) 07:20, 10 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A controversial change like this (which, incidentally, alters the target of over 3,000 links contained in other articles) needs to be discussed to see if there is a consensus in its favor. Also, please note that *if* there is a consensus that Massachusetts Institute of Technology is not the primary topic, the correct way of implementing that would be to move the disambiguation page to the title "MIT", to avoid a malplaced disambiguation page. Therefore, those supporting the change really should open a move discussion on this page. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 11:36, 10 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
