Article should be renamed MJ (Marvel Cinematic Universe)[edit]

This article should be renamed MJ (Marvel Cinematic Universe) as per WP:COMMONNAME, as she is never referred to as Michelle Jones by any of the characters in the MCU Spider-Man films.- Richiekim (talk) 17:19, 28 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Done, by the way. IronManCap (talk) 20:29, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No it should be Michelle Jones. That is her name. 174.226.140.68 (talk) 15:36, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Not in the MCU as of yet. IronManCap (talk) 20:29, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

General thoughts as of 9/4/2020[edit]

I'm not an official reviewer but I can make a few suggestions:

  • Merge "Depiction" section with "Portrayal and characterization"
  • Maybe add a bit of MJ's character arc in her two films. The Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki on Fandom might be a good place to borrow text as it's licensed under the Creative Commons agreement, just that you have to give credit there when copying/adapting text over.
  • To avoid confusion with Mary Jane Watson (Sam Raimi film series), maybe her article should be titled 'Michelle "MJ" Jones' or something like that? I'd go with how she's credited in the film.

Otherwise, this draft looks good! It's now well-sourced and on-par with some of the other character articles out there.

Thanks, --WuTang94 (talk) 19:18, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Just now noticed your review. Will attempt now. Jhenderson 777 19:21, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
 Done all three. Jhenderson 777 19:46, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Image plan?[edit]

If the article hits the mainspace. I am thinking a low resolution of this might be the best fair use image. Any objections? Jhenderson 777 22:40, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Jhenderson777: I’ve uploaded a new version because I thought the lighting on the previous one obscured the image. Hope you don’t mind. We can discuss this further if you want. IronManCap (talk) 20:40, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It’s fine. No objections. Jhenderson 777 22:32, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Comments[edit]

I was asked to comment on this draft. Thank you for that invite.

I would tone down "was praised" in the lead; I think it would be more encyclopedic tone to use a phrase such as "received favorable reviews."

In "Creation and concept," would identify Daley at first mention as " Spider-Man: Homecoming co-screenwriter John Francis Daley"; otherwise, at first glance, we don't know why his opinion carries weight.

Typo ("to" s.b. "by") and passive voice: "While her nickname is a reference Easter egg of the popular supporting character within Spider-Man various media, she was officially considered an original character to Marvel Cinematic Universe founder, Kevin Feige."

I would suggest: "While her nickname appears to reference the supporting character within the comic books and other Spider-Man media, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed she is an original Marvel Cinematic Universe character."

Last sentence in this section, we should identify Watts.

I made one copy edit: the news-content provider Yahoo! Entertainment is not italicized, the cite s.b. "cite news" and not "cite web", and with a US subject, we use US dates.

I'd be glad to swing by later (see what I did there? hah!) but I'm afraid I'm actually at work and just meant to pop in and correct something at Ciera Payton. --Tenebrae (talk) 18:41, 6 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reviews. They were helpful! Also yes I saw what you did there lol. Jhenderson 777 20:39, 6 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure if this article is necessary. This is a supporting character in a single franchise. So far articles for MCU characters have been limited leads and character that have spanned multiple franchises.--TriiipleThreat (talk) 15:18, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There is Rachel Dawes, Erik Selvig and Trevor Slattery. I figured the sources speaked for themselves anyway? Jhenderson 777 16:01, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
She is way more major than Trevor or Eric. So...that was reaching. Anyways I will dodge my Wp:otherstuffexists arguement counterattack when since there is multiple sources on the character and since she is original character compared to derived work. Surname "Jones" not official[edit]

Ok so the surname I feel doesn’t seem officially canon yet and may be waited to be revealed in the sequel. So it’s just Michelle for the time being. As long as that is official. If anyone thinks of a better name then go for it! Jhenderson 777 17:56, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Is "MJ (Marvel Cinematic Universe)" a better title?--TriiipleThreat (talk) 18:05, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Possibly. As long as we avoid the period splits. I think we shouldn’t have trouble moving it to there if that is consensus. Jhenderson 777 18:07, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
To editor Jhenderson777:Okay, how can you say that Jones is not canon when she states that her name is Michelle Jones at the end of Homecoming? That makes it pretty canon to me. 174.226.140.68 (talk) 15:42, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That doesn't happen in the film. —El Millo (talk) 16:30, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Original Character[edit]

So essentially, she's a completely made-up character for the MCU and has no known counterpart in the comics? At least not yet. If she gets popular enough, I can see Marvel giving her the "Harley Quinn Treatment".

(161.29.246.205 (talk) 01:33, 1 May 2021 (UTC))[reply]

Yeah she's an original character created for the MCU although her name is an obvious homage to Mary Jane. enjoyer -- talk 23:30, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Watson????!?[edit]

SPOILER ALERT FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN NWH!! So in the new film, MJ's full name is suddenly given as "Michelle Jones-Watson", no doubt officially making her MJ Watson, like the original comic character. But since when? Is this a continuity error or was that always her name or did I miss something? - Jasonbres (talk) 18:41, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It is obviously not a continuity error. Gonnym (talk) 18:56, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Surname "Jones-Watson" confirmed.[edit]

Stop changing / displacing MJ's surname ("Jones-Watson") because the character "does not go by that name." Tony Stark doesn't go by Anthony Stark, however his Wikipedia page displays his full name. Ned In The Chair (talk) 20:50, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly multiple people keep adding Jones-Watson when she doesn't go by that Goku MUI1997 (talk) 22:20, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

When I edited I kept Jones-Watson as the full name, however I kept Jones as the primary name Goku MUI1997 (talk) 22:47, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Her name is still Jones-Watson regardless of what is said by her in the film. Again I refer to the example with Tony Stark. Please stop changing to be contrary with general consensus; you're warring. Ned In The Chair (talk) 23:21, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Michelle Jones[edit]

Multiple people keep changing the character name of her even though in the movie it is stated her full name is Michelle Jones-Watson the character says she doesn't go by Watson Goku MUI1997 (talk) 22:19, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It's Jones-Watson. Ned In The Chair (talk) 23:21, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Template name[edit]

The template name should be "MJ", while the full name should be reported only in the appropriate field, right? Redjedi23 (talk) 11:28, 1 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The infobox should be labeled with the character's full name. There is no requirement that it mirror the article's title. InfiniteNexus (talk) 06:02, 2 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
But we generally use the common name of the character, such as Tony Stark instead of Anthony Edward Stark. MJ is definitely more used than Michelle Jones or the rarely-used Michelle Jones-Watson. Redjedi23 (talk) 13:56, 3 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if we're going for consistency between MCU character articles ... I guess that is a good point. I'll adjust it. InfiniteNexus (talk) 06:37, 4 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Gonnym (talk) 09:05, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

i believe it should be renamed this way , since mj isn't a variation of the name , but a nickname. For example it's not like calling tony stark , Anthony stark because tony stark is a variation of the name . Geodram1 (talk) 13:37, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is not a move request for this article, it's a deletion request for the redirect because it's missing a space between "Watson" and the parentheses. InfiniteNexus (talk) 17:52, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
