MRC does not represent electron density[edit]
As far as I remember and understand, .mrc as used in cryo-EM represents the strength of electric (or even electromagnetic) field which interacts with the electrons as they pass through the sample. Therefore, .mrc as compared to .CCP4, shows not the electron density but Colomb field density (or even electromagnetic field density in the case of magnetic materials) which in a sense could be converted to charge density (which includes both protons and electrons) (or even micro-currents). Maybe somebody from the fields of electron microscopy, X-ray crystallography, or physics could make the corrections? Kazkaskazkasako (talk) 12:43, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

- I mean what do I do to create the file? I already know what I am going to put in the file, but how do you simply create it? I've got Geany which I use to edit the mrc file, but I don't know how to just create a empty mrc file. Thanks, Cubs197 (talk) 21:09, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
- I think you must use any of the softwares in Electron microscopy (which can convert any other density format to MRC format). I don't know if any general 2D/3D polygon/density editors: vector or raster can convert to a scientific format. Kazkaskazkasako (talk) 07:47, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
