By the way, check to see if the Octopus card is indeed a magnetic swipe card. I think you will be surprised to find out the answer.

Try taking a photo of the strip-map in the MTR train itself, which manages to pack all the names in a smaller space. Currently that picture goes way beyond the boundaries (Fuzheado 09:27 17 Jul 2003 (UTC))

MTR move

I disagree with moving MTR to MTR Corporation Limited. The article focuses mainly on the MTR as the source of transportation in Hong Kong, rather than the corporation itself. I think in this regard the title is more appropriate as the MTR. In addition, MR Corporation Limited is more combersome, and will require in the future typing additional space so that you can add |MTR]] when referring to the MTR. I am reverting the move unless anyone has anything to say in support.

Too many colours!

Mass Transit Railway Corporation Limited

Bit of corporate branding. When it was a governmetn company the operator was "Mass Transit Railway Corporation" (no "Limited" as it was a company guaranteed by the government); when it was privatised it became "MTR Corporation Limited". --JuntungWu 08:07, 22 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Unifying colours for the MTR lines

I discovered there are many colours representing the same line around the MTR pages. For example:

Kwun Tong Line vs Kwun Tong Line
Tsuen Wan Line vs Tsuen Wan Line vs Tsuen Wan Line
Island Line vs Island Line
Tung Chung Line vs Tung Chung Line vs Tung Chung Line
Airport Express vs Airport Express
Tseung Kwan O Line vs Tseung Kwan O Line
Disneyland Resort Line vs Disneyland Resort Line vs Disneyland Resort Line

I suggest to define a colour set for standardization. I do not prefer to use the colours which are similar to blue or reddish maroon, as they represent ordinary links and missing articles respectively.

As a matter of consistency, we should also decide whether those coloured "lines" have to be bolded and linked to the specific line pages as well. --Xavier114fch 18:03, 31 May 2005 (UTC)

I'll be only retaining only one coloured link throughout the entire article, as in accordance to the wishes of the community when the article was under FAC. I'll use the colour dropper using PSP from the official MTR map ~~and use it as the unifying colour for the MTR lines.~~ Any objections? - Mailer Diablo 17:04, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Tung Chung Cable Car

The current system maps on trains are not very clear. Is "Ngong Ping 360" the name of the station at Ngong Ping, or the entire cable car system? — Insta ntnood 08:16, May 26, 2005 (UTC)

Ngong Ping 360 is the official name of the cable car. The "station" on the map is for indication of an interchange. --Xavier114fch 18:03, 31 May 2005 (UTC)

Long pages

Upon editing the page to update the total numbers of lines and stations, Wikipedia has shown that this page exceeds 32kb in terms of content. According to Article_size, it seems that the page need some cleanup and splitting of certain specific contents away. I suspect if the recent merge of PSD information from the deletion of that specific page has caused the increase. New stuff will soon be added as Disneyland Resort Line opens, and I feel a bit reluctant to update so that Sunny Bay is included. Any ideas? --Xavier114fch 18:42, 31 May 2005 (UTC)

The PSD section needs rework IMO. It looks too long right now, we can also use this opportunity to cut down on the size of the article somewhat. - Mailer Diablo 17:47, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Article Cleanup

Hi guys!

The article's changed a bit with additional information after it's promotion to Featured Article status. It looked a bit messy so I've done the follow to make it look better :

Integration of PSD section into the article
Moved some of the images to its line sub-pages, others reordered.
Policy for colours of the MTR Lines

The cable car has also been removed from the MTR Network section, as I think it isn't a railway.

Oh yes, if you have time some of the images that have just been uploaded can be transferred to the commons as well.

Good job, indeed. And I see you've tranferred my pics which are recently uploaded, Now the page is much more "spic-and-span". =) Btw, the cable car, as it is named, is obviously not a railway, but seemingly it will be run by the MTR Corporation. I think it is OK to put cable car back at its original position. One boo-boo, anyhow: the cable car route is not shown in the MTR system map, and I prefer removing the cable car at this moment. --Jerry Crimson Mann 18:52, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)

It's much better now! Ngong Ping 360 could also consider as a rail system, as far as I know from the rail enthusiasts here in HK. The official route map shows Tung Chung as an interchange with a grey line and a smaller circle. The grey line represents the "walkway" and the circle as the cable car terminus. As long as it is MTR's property and part of the MTR system, I suggest giving some lines of description in this page and opening a new page/stub (or whatever) for it for future addition of information. I think the PSD of HK MTR is a historic improvement work. It is the World's first installing PSD during operation. If you clean it up, and why don't leave the page that the editor opened.---MMLCS36 00:19, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Mobile Phone Networks in MTR

Can someone with information (ex. dates) regarding mobile phone use in the MTR add some information about it because not many underground rail services around the world have this kind of service.

Thanks for Mr/Ms Anon.'s suggestion, which is certainly a constructive one. Furthermore, information about in-train news signboard, a service offered by MTR in associated with Commercial Radio, can be put into condsideration as well.

The MTRCL actually has a wholly-owned subsidiary for its telecommunications business, which includes the mobile phone service. Gotta check with the annual report. — Insta ntnood 17:49, Jun 10, 2005 (UTC)
