Treat This Award as Defunct and Create a New Article for the PUSH Award?[edit]

I get that they've merged Best New Artist and the PUSH award for the 2020 VMAs, so I understand adding those nominees here. However, I'm wondering if it'd make more sense to describe this BNA category as "defunct" (ending in 2019) and create a new article for the various iterations of the Push award at the VMAs -- where we would include this year's nominees. I say this for a couple of reasons:

1. They're not really the same award. BNA was an award where any new artist was eligible, while this "PUSH Best New Artist" award has as a prerequisite to have been featured by the MTV Push initiative. This limits the number of people who are eligible to even get nominated for this current award, and it makes it different from a generic VMA for me.
2. Artists were (confusingly) sometimes eligible for both awards on different years. Sometimes artists who had already been nominated for BNA showed up on the lists for the PUSH award the following year (e.g., Noah Cyrus, Khalid, SZA, Bazzi). In fact, had Ava Max made it to the top 6 of this year's award, would we have to say that she was nominated for BNA two years in a row? That doesn't make much sense, and it's because both categories reward different things (as mentioned above).

So yeah, there may be other reasons both for and against, but I'd say it'd make more sense to treat this new "PUSH Best New Artist" award as a continuation of "Push Artist of the Year" instead of BNA. Curious to see what others think! --Andresg770 (talk) 18:41, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
