Come on guys

Pics or it didn't happen. This is standard procedure. Get a picture of MacGyver on here. 24.4.200.52 15:46, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Pictures are available on Richard Dean Anderson's website[[1]]. perhaps one could be used with a non-fair use policy or something. I will look into this further, but someone else should also look into this in case I can't get an image on here. Poet  Talk  16:46, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

Vietnam background?

Should we add info on this? Bombofin 15:46, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Some information has been added. Most information comes from a few talks in the episode "Countdown" where MacGyver talks to his friend Charlie about their time in Nam, and Peter also mentions this. I have also heard somewhere that MacGyver had met Kate Malloy in Vietnam, but I can't find any reliable sources on this right now. Also, I read somewhere that he was in Afghanistan shortly after Vietnam with the same bomb defusing team? Poet  Talk  16:38, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

About location;

Angus MacGyverMacGyver (character) — "Angus" is almost never used in the show. The most common name is simply MacGyver. — 124.168.213.47 (talk) 10:28, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Right. But the page will be either at Angus McGyver or McGyver (character), not at McGyver. (Just making sure you're easy with McGyver (character).) --RegentsPark (My narrowboat) 00:37, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
Yes. That's how disambiguation is typically done -- by adding a term in parentheses that distinguishes it from other topics of the same name. The disambiguating term is not part of the name. --Polaron | Talk 01:53, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

While the discussion above is closed, I'd like to add that I agree with the move request, i.e. that the article should be at 'MacGyver (Character)', as per the arguments above and WP:COMMONNAME. It's fairly ludicrous to have this article at Angus MacGyver considering it's not what he's called within the series itself nor in the overwhelming majority of references to the character as per Commonname.Number36 (talk) 08:14, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

MacGyver's first name, Stacey?

I just removed a portion of the "First Name" section stating that MacGyver's first name was originally "Stace" in the series pilot script. Can anyone verify this at all? I did quite a bit of searching on my own and cannot find any information that doesn't quote that it is in the script for the pilot. Does anyone have a published copy of the pilot to verify this?

It was also said on one site, shareTV trivia, that the creator himself says the original character was named "Stace", but I cannot find any source of him saying that in any interview I read. I'm not about to take that fan site's word as fact either.

At the same time this site, MacGyver Online, mentions that Richard Dean Anderson claims the production staff has no idea where the idea of "Stace" came from, but that it wasn't from them. They also show a reference to a promotional magazine clipping that mentions the name "Stacey",[2] but it seems to be the only identifiable source that mentions the name apart from rumor. Again, I'm not about to take that triva site's content as fact, because they could have pulled it from Wikipedia for all we know.

I removed the portion from the section, because there is currently no valid source for this information and SEVERAL websites around the internet seem to be taking that information as fact, rather than confirming a valid source of information. Rather than continue spreading the unreferenced rumor, let's continue to research this until we actually do have an interview with Zlotoff or Anderson that can confirm some of this. --Poet  Talk  06:48, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

http://movies.stackexchange.com/questions/5723/why-was-macgyvers-first-name-kept-a-mystery shows an official looking Paramount press release with the character name listed as Stacey. 69.183.31.160 (talk) 01:31, 5 December 2013 (UTC)

Birthdate

I have seen several people state that MacGyver's birth date is March 23, 1951. I have also seen March 23, 1952. However, in Season 1, Episode 15 his identification clearly states that he was born January 23, 1951 (exactly one year after Richard Dean Anderson was born). Since the only source I can find right now (that episode) shows his birthday as January 23 instead of March 23, I'm going to change this on the page. If you can find a source where it is stated otherwise, then I guess the month will have to be disputed further. --Poet  Talk  05:56, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

In season one, in the episode titled Every Time She Smiles, on the first appearance of Penny Parker (played by Teri Hatcher), there is a shot of MacGyver's and Penny's passports which shows his birth date. Possibly intentionally, Penny's passport is covering the portion of MacGyver's passport that would show his full name. name of Macgyver's son

imdb lists it as "Sam" not Sean. Imdb has been known to be wrong, though. Anyone with access to the episode able to clear this up? Wickedjacob (talk) 19:21, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

Having seen the mentioned episode, it IS Sam. It stands for Sean Angus MacGyver. MacGyver's son prefers to be called Sam over Sean. that's to the best of my remembrance.

First Name

I just saw the episode "The Visitor" and somewhere around 6:18 he introduces himself to Tommy Wiley and I heard it several times and still can get no sense of an "Angus" that should be "mumbled", as the article states. Maybe I got the wrong scene? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.70.81.151 (talk) 07:53, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

RE: Closed discussion on moving (new section as requested)

Day late and a dollar short for the discussion previously, however, I have to agree with the title move to MacGyver. If you put character after it or not is really not the point. The great majority of the series, his name was strictly MacGyver (or Mac nickname), and titling the article to fit something mentioned at what turned out to be the tail end of the series, to me, makes no sense. Put a reference in there to his (finally) full name for sure. 69.183.31.160 (talk) 01:02, 5 December 2013 (UTC)

I have to agree, it's utterly ridiculous that this article should be at Angus MacGyver, as per WP:COMMONNAME "Wikipedia prefers the name that is most commonly used (as determined by its prevalence in reliable English-language sources) as such names will be the most recognizable and the most natural." and "Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's "official" name as an article title; it prefers to use the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language reliable sources. This includes usage in the sources used as references for the article. " The character is explicitly not known as Angus within the show, or referred to as such in the supporting references and sources; The overwhelmingly common name for the character is simply MacGyver. The title of the article is clearly incorrect and not in line with the Wikipedia naming policies, it absolutely should be at MacGyver (Character).Number36 (talk) 21:40, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

RE: Main page section titled Personality

Some of the statements regarding Mac's use of firearms is not technically correct. Specifically in the first episode, the rifle was pointed at the ground, therefore, not "up in the air". Also, towards the end of that fight, when he and the rescued pilot are almost ready to jump off the cliff, Mac is seen firing the AK-47 towards the left of the screen (his right). Opening

I find it funny that, in the first paragraph, the original MacGyver is referred to in the present tense, while the new MacGyver is referred to in the past tense. Also, since there is no such thing as "a duct tape", I added the words "roll of". - LoneDragon
