The image of the "Zaide" title page reads, roughly translated: "Zaide, [a] Spanish story, by Monsieur de Segrais, with a discussion of the origin of novels, by Monsieur Huet" This accords with the article saying that Zaide was signed by Segrais, and with the mention a little after this of the preface by Huet. Rename?

[edit]

The Google test gives 44,000 results for "Madame de la Fayette" but only 14,000 results for the name in this article title. Durova 01:43, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

But "Marie-Madeleine Pioche de la Vergne, comtesse de la Fayette" is so fun to say! :-) Yes, going by Wikipedia:Manual of Style (biographies) the article title should be the most common name, which is definitely "Madame de la Fayette". There should obviously be a redirect from Marie-Madeleine etc, though, and the same guidelines suggest that "the subject's full name should be given in the lead paragraph". I won't do the rename myself though as I don't know how and don't want to make a hash of it. :-) --Zeborah 08:19, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gilbert du Motier, marquis de Lafayette

[edit]

Is Gilbert du Motier, marquis de Lafayette related to or a descendant of Madame de La Fayette?--DThomsen8 (talk) 11:10, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

He's something like a thirteenth cousin twice removed of her husband. Seriously. (IIRC her son was the last of this branch, and to find an heir for the title after his death they had to go a long way up the family tree and down again.) I'll try and find if I've still got my notes with the reference to where my copy of the family tree comes from so I can add it here. --Zeborah (talk) 00:40, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Good information. Please add something here. I suspect I am not the only one curious about the relationship, apparently quite distant. --DThomsen8 (talk) 14:44, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
