Richard Madeley reference

[edit]

I feel that the reference to Madeley being named in honour of Richard Madeley is a false claim that does not have any evidence for it. It has been added and removed a number of times, the removals carried out by a number of different editors (including myself). No evidence for this claim appears to exist on investigation, and the IP address (84.71.17.103) that has put the claim back into the article (on 19 July) had carried out a number of other acts of vandalism on the same day, around the same time to an assortment of articles (Special:Contributions/84.71.17.103). This being the case, I have removed once more the reference to Richard Madeley (as it may only serve to misinform readers), but I do not wish to become involved in an edit war and would be more than happy to see the paragraph put back, provided a reliable outside source is cited for it. As mentioned before, I have not been able to locate one myself, but I realise that this does not mean that no proof exists. Mouchoir le Souris 18:07, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Of course it is a false claim. David 14:59, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The claim was just put back into the article, with the talk page vandalised. I have performed reverts on both, but I suspect action needs to be taken to protect the page and this talk page as well, as this is beginning to get a bit silly. Mouchoir le Souris 22:51, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Wrekin parliament constituency?

[edit]

Isn't it actually in the Telford constituency?Asdfasdf1231234 22:49, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I believe so, yes. David 14:59, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I confirm it is in the present Telford constituency, having checked the latter's wiki article.Cloptonson (talk) 06:06, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Religious Sites

[edit]

I have rephrased reference to Thomas Telford's designing of Madeley (CofE) Parish Church to emphasise 'in its present form', as the church is of an ancient foundation, including monuments to Brooke family members from late 16th century.Cloptonson (talk) 21:54, 22 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yate Family

[edit]

I have added to Notable People section Colonel Sir Charles Yate who has his own wikipedia article and lived at Madeley Hall, from which he took his baronetcy, and was kinsman to Major Charles Yate VC. I will see if I can find out an exact link to supersede 'kinsman'.Cloptonson (talk) 19:02, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Peter Jackson (historian)

[edit]

I have deleted him from the list of 'Other notable people' who came from or have lived in Madeley - there is nothing to indicate his origins pre university in his wiki article. If he must be listed, information that can demonstrate a residential connection should be cited and be readable of in his article.Cloptonson (talk) 06:12, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
