Lead section update

[edit]

I have rewritten the title section to accurately represent the current industry of the company, since it is no longer a conglomerate. However, I have left the top page warnings in place because some sections of the article (mainly sections on the Energy division) are still to be updated to reflect this. TPAnderson (talk) 16:55, 15 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I modified the lede section (little bit) RPSkokie (talk) 03:26, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Maersk and tonnage taxation

[edit]

This section is extremely weird and reads like a personal essay with numerous tangents not related to Maersk. For explain, it includes a 3 line sentence about how happy people in Denmark are, and explains the concept of "hygge". The section needs to be cleaned up or removed. Ashmoo (talk) 10:59, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ashmoo, I agree completely - it is really offtopic. I would suggest to remove.
FYI for the sake of transparency, I am a communicator at Maersk, no one at our company had owned the maintenance of these pages for soem time and there a lot of irrelevant or outdated points. Happy to have this section removed, but I wanted to follow correct Wiki proceedures as I beleive I am not supposed ot edit my own company's page? Philip Lewin (talk) 12:57, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

2023 temporary suspension / page organisation

[edit]

May be a good idea to include their shipping suspension due to Houthi attacks in December 2023. The page however is quite cluttered so I don't want to make any major changes. Perhaps the headings for the subsidiaries, for instance, should be integrated? Tanaya001 (talk) 01:57, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tanaya, thanks for the comment. I think the challenge is the issue is quite complex and it is not only Maersk, most of the major shipping lines are not going through the Red Sea, and some are with support from the peacekeeping force. So a long explanation would be needed, that also includes the history of the attacks and the impact on global shipping. Best, Philip (communicator at Maersk) Philip Lewin (talk) 12:59, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Several suggested updates coming

[edit]

Hi Wiki editor, I am part of Maersk's global communications team, we realize that no one has really owned the maintenance of our pages and now there is quite a bit out of date. I will upload a number of suggestions here, if you want to contact me and discuss or clarify anything, my mail is philip.lewin and then Maersk (unfortunately our corporate firewall prohibits me from adding comments from a Maersk device or our office network, so I am entering these from my personal computer at home). There is quite a bit on our website that is obsolete or no longer relevant, outdated or changed, and a fair amount of new stuff too. Happy to chat with you if it helps, and thank you for considering our suggestions. 93.160.24.76 (talk) 12:11, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Wiki editors, as no one has responded or taken action in over a month now, would there be any objections to me implementing these changes (with full transparency that I work for Maersk) and then I am happy to discuss anything you do not agree with? Maersk is mentioned in the media a lot now, and we would really like to have our Wiki page current so people who coem here to learn more have current and accurate information. If it is not appropriate for me to make these changes, can you please let me know if there is any way to get a Wiki editor to take some action on these? I realize most of you do this part time, but it should also not take 4 weeks to make relatively simple text changes. Thanks for coming back to me, Philip Lewin Philip Lewin (talk) 14:29, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Under the 'History' heading, this proposed revision

[edit]

In September 2023, Maersk unveiled Laura Mærsk, the world's first vessel capable of sailing on green methanol. Laura Mærsk is a feeder vessel of 2,100 TEU capacity in service on the Baltic Sea. In June of 2023, Maersk also announced an order for six additional mid-sized container vessels of 9,000 TEU capacity, bringing its total order book to 24 new vessels capable of sailing on green methanol.

In November of 2023, Maersk sign a landmark offtake agreement with Chinese developer Goldwind, a global leader in clean energy. The agreement looks to secure annual volumes of 500KT of green fuels including bio-methanol and e-methanol, all produced utilising wind energy at a new production facility in Hinggan League, Northeast China, around 1000km northeast of Beijing. The first volumes expected in 2026. Philip Lewin (talk) 12:19, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Under Transport and logistics, Maersk section, propose this addition

[edit]

On 15 March, 2022, Robert M. Uggla was appointed Chair of the Board at A.P. Moller – Maersk, succeeding Jim Hagemann Snabe. The appointment marks a generational change in the company. Robert M. Uggla represents the founding family and remains as CEO of A.P. Moller Holding. Philip Lewin (talk) 12:20, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

PLEASE DO NOT DELETE THIS TEXT - I HAVE REPLACED IT TWICE AND SOME EDITOR KEEPS DELETING. THIS IS FACTUAL AND CURRENT INFORMATION. 93.160.24.76 (talk) 13:25, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey there, I believe I may have been the editor who reverted that. Let me double-check and let you know what issues I had with your changes. OnlyNanotalk 13:35, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
First, I had issues with one of your edits, because you're linking the company's home page to it's name in the article. I saw this as promotion, as you appear to have a conflict of interest, and also because it's not needed (that can go in the external links section, if someone needs it). I am rolling back the changes, because you had some perfectly sourced information, which the rollback removed. Thanks for your diligence! OnlyNanotalk 13:40, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey there, I'd also like to comment that you should find a reliable source for your edit. I'm fine with the primary source, as we typically get a lot of vandals saying companies have dissolved or merged (when they have not), and this doesn't look like the case this time. A great example of that would be a news outlet (that doesn't post press releases) covering the merger. OnlyNanotalk 14:43, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks OnlyNano for the comments and support, I have put the text back but changed the citations as you mention. Its tricky as most of the media that covers the shipping industry is subscription based and I did not want to use a reference that sits behind a paywall. But I have found one with unbiased coverage of the announcement, as well as a publication by NASDAQ rather than /Svitzer of the formal listing. Philip Lewin (talk) 17:38, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Great work, thanks, Philip! OnlyNanotalk 17:39, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you OnlyNano, someone has again deleted my text so I replaced it again - this is getting very frustrating and is a disservice to the community as it presents outdated information as current. I'm hoping people will let this edit stand now. Philip Lewin (talk) 09:20, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would suggest taking a look at the page's edit history to get a better picture of why it was deleted. In this case, an edit summary, "Copyvio revdel completed," and a couple others seem to show that the content you added is in a violation of copyright. If you haven't changed anything since the last time you added that section, I suggest you remove the copyrighted content, and revise it to not include copyrighted content. Under Maersk an Danish climate targets, suggest this text added to end:

[edit]

In 2023, Maersk became the first in the shipping industry to have its 2030 and 2040 targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in alignment with a 1.5°C and net zero pathway under SBTi’s new maritime industry guidance. These new targets include specific sub-targets for scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions and will replace previous targets announced in early 2022. Philip Lewin (talk) 12:31, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Update to Contravention of Maritime Organisation’s SOLAS Convention and cloaking section

[edit]

Hi editors, I have added a few small but important clarifications to the original post, which appears to have been sourced by a single and biased NGO. The vessels were time chartered vessels (e.g. not owned by Maersk), also the cargo was picked up by Maersk in Trieste for offloading in Singapore, rather than for the entire route of Albania to Thailand. For the sake of fairness, it is also important to note that cloaking is not only used for illegal activities - it is a legitimate tool for protecting cargo vessels from being targeted for attack, and is actively being used today due to Houti threats against commercial shipping in the Red Sea area. Also added two new an unbiased media reports on the progress of returning the cargo to Albania. I'm happy to discuss an concerns you might have here in Talk, and understand this is an emotionally charged topic. Thank you. Philip Lewin (talk) 09:29, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
