FISM[edit]

FISM is the big one. Anyone claiming to be "world champion" magician better have won at FISM.

Some conventions have a bit misleading names, especially american conventions. Using "Internatinal.." or "World..." usually means that they have hired performers and lecturers from all over the world, but the main visitors (and participants in competitions) usually are just americans. So winning 1st prize at "International this and that" doesn't necessary have to mean much.

The convention held at "International Magic" in London each year is different though. The convention is usually refered to as "Ron McMillan's" or simply "McMillan's". It is considered to be an unofficial european championship, but the competition attract participants from all over the world, Canada, USA, Japan etc. Very prestitigous(How the hell is it spelled?) award that recently changed its name to the "Kevin Reay" award, in honor of a young magician who died tragically. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TStone (talkcontribs) 18:08, January 25, 2006

Because FISM is the generally considered the most prestigious competition in the magic community, I removed the superlative attached to the IBM Gold Cups and Gold Medal. Instead, the most prestigious award in magic is the Grand Prix at FISM. Michaelfeldman (talk) 00:49, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
