Indexing

[edit]

Hi, I am of course open to the fact that something about my edit could have been wrong, but what exactly was it that you objected to? It was a simple indexing edit, whats the problem?? Jdcooper 15:25, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, first of all I thought I would change the name of the section as it is a bit more clear this way. I know that the edit you made did a sorting for the names. However, this is actually an ongoing discussion in the Eritrean and Ethiopian biography pages. People from these countries do not have last names. Typically people are indexed by their family name first and given name second. The convention in these countries however is quite the opposite. First you are indexed by your first name, then by your second and third...and so on and so forth. As you would understand, someone looking up Mahmoud would not look up Sherifo, but rather Mahmoud, then Ahmed then Sherifo... --Merhawie 17:47, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks for the clarification, I have come across those debates for other cultures, I wasn't aware the same debate was relevant in this case. Hope its ok if I put back the other changes that were part of the same edit. Jdcooper 18:08, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's plenty fine. No worries! Thanks! Merhawie 20:32, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
