Why Makassar?

[edit]

What is the basis for the frequent implication (as in this article) that the Indonesian/Malay fishermen only came from one island - Makassar/Celebes/Sulawesi - and not any other islands in the archipeligo? After all Timor is closer.--Jack Upland (talk) 22:36, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No answer? I can only assume it's nonsense.--Jack Upland (talk) 09:35, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This source explains: http://press.anu.edu.au//apps/bookworm/view/Macassan+History+and+Heritage/10541/ch01.xhtml

I will try and update it if noone else does, as it seams strange now to have the unsourced comment mentioning other islands in the archipelago where people could have visited from. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.170.209.36 (talk) 11:50, 2 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please note there have been significant rewrites since the comments made above- over 5 and 3 years ago. However thanks for the the ANU reference - I assume you are going to add it.Nickm57 (talk) 21:38, 2 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Abduction of Women

[edit]

This article makes reference to the abduction of Yolngu women by Macassans, whereas the Yolngu article mentions that the two groups had good relations and that the foreigners 'avoided' Yolngu women. 134.148.4.20 (talk) 11:40, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rewrite of April 2012

Indigenous Australians in Makassar

[edit]

This article looks like a one-way street ie. Makassar people visiting northern coast of Australia only but this is not the case; see [https.//www.abc.net.au/news/2023-02-11/mystery-community-of-aboriginal-and-indonesian-families/101901188]. 202.92.246.225 (talk) 08:37, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

So you haven't actually read the article? That news report was linked about 8 hours ago. No doubt more info will come to light so the section currently headed "Indonesia" can be expanded.Nickm57 (talk) 10:11, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
