I was born in New Cebu(purok 2, right by the elementary school) in 1981. It was a different place then. The roads were narrow and were not paved in any way. It was thick with trees and it had a nice, calm feeling to it. Electricity and running water was just a dream for many of the people there. I left the Philippines for the U.S.when I was ten years old. I just turned 24 years old and has been very fortunate being able to see so much of the world. I've seen many parts of the States, Canada, Asia and Europe but nothing can match the feeling I feel when I go back to visit the Philippines or New Cebu in particular. My job allows me to go back there twice a year at the most. My first visit was is 1998 and I had a difficult time adjusting to the life I left at first but it eventually came back slowly. I have plans to eventually settle in New Cebu one day. I think that the place will grow as time passes by. I recently finished building a house for my grandma whom is really dear to me and I just bought a small piece of land right around that area and a small multi cab. I never thought that I would ever get the chance to leave New Cebu but this goes to show you that everything is possible. Everytime I set foot in New Cebu, something new is up. What's up with all the bananas? I had a cousin drive me all around the area to show me all the bananas and their are alot of them. What happened to all the trees? Although I'm liking the fact that the roads are now easier to access even though it's not fully paved and their is a semi running water and electricity, I think I like the old New Cebu better. Lots of trees and not a single sound at night but those of the night creatures. I'm not a city type person. I've seen many of them and they don't really impress all that much. I think what it is is that my heart really belongs to where I was born. I felt at home whenever I was there. I felt relax. It's a very simple life but very relaxing and that is a complete opposite from the lifestyle of the U.S. which is made out of nothing else but work and more work. It gets tiring after awhile and people have the tendency to forget the more important things in life like family and religion. -- 15:25, February 21, 2006‎ 136.216.75.6
