Misheard analogy

[edit]

The article claims that the third lyric is drawn from baseball but it's almost certainly actually from American football. Apparently a line was misheard: it's not "I can make the run or stumble" (despite many Net sites repeating that); it's "I can make the runner stumble". This is much more in keeping with the later imagery: "I can make the final block and I can make every tackle at the sound of the whistle -- I can make all the stadiums rock." Note that both a "block" and a "tackle" are events in football and that football refs (but not baseball umpires) blow whistles to end plays. Both games have "runners" but the football interpretation makes more sense: The singer is expounding the many ways in which he is competent before, eventually, admitting he'll never "do it like you do". 19:11, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

Isn't the title supposed to be Making Love Out of Nothing At All without the parentheses? Maeglin 09:21, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
