Blatant contradiction[edit]

In the lead sentence, the article states that Mali was gifted in 1977. However, the infobox indicates that she could have been born as late as 1980.

Even if she was gifted while she was still in the womb, it still doesn't make sense:

Elephants have long gestation periods, but not that long. As such, if that were the case then the latest she could have been born is 1979.
Surely it was known whether she was still in the womb at the time of gifting?

I see there are sources for the two extremes of the year of birth, but the gifting doesn't have a source cited. That said, I see it's mentioned at [1]. Moreover, we have a problem in that the article states the gifting as fact despite the contradiction.

Even if we can't determine which sources are correct, surely we still need to make sure the article doesn't contradict itself.... — Smjg (talk) 21:36, 3 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
