Stage work[edit]

Miyano was initially known for acting in the Prince of Tennis musicals. He has been in six separate musicals, starting in 2003 and most recently in May 2008, so I'd argue that it is a notable role.

He is also currently in a theatre unit, SMILY☆SPIKY, with one of his fellow Prince of Tennis musical actors. Its website is in the External Links, but otherwise it's not currently mentioned in the article. --Adevish (talk) 04:24, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Comments after copyedit[edit]

  • The intro seems to have a lot of repetion of detail from later in the article (specific awards he was nominated for, etc.) rather than general summary. I think it might need a rewrite before you take this to GA; I have tried to trim and summarize the intro somewhat, but am not sure if it's enough yet.
  • Why doesn't King Records count "Kuon" as his debut single?
A reason was never given. If you look at his discography you'll see that "Discovery" is listed as his first single. ~Moon~~Sunrise~ 19:37, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • When in 2008 did he release "Discovery"? For the other singles after it you give a month, but for "Discovery" you just say 2008.
Add date. ~Moon~~Sunrise~ 19:37, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Why divide "voice career" from "acting career"? It seems to me that they are both similar (voice acting vs. camera acting); at the least, one could be a subsection of the other. Have you looked at related articles, and is it standard to have voice acting and other acting separated like this? Never mind, I just BOLDly merged them. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 19:17, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for merging them. Unfortunately there isn't any other article that I can follow (So I'm trying to be the first. :)) so I just decided to separate the two because I didn't really know how it would flow. This is probably the only Japanese voice actor page that looks organized because the other just list a profile and the voicing the person did. That's how this article started off actually... ~Moon~~Sunrise~ 19:37, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The character single listed as being the first is certainly not as his character singles as Sakuraba Haruto or Suô Tamaki went out way before. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.49.99.203 (talk) 07:56, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GA on hold[edit]

Overall, the article looks good, but has some issues, mostly dealing with expansion.

- Could you expand the second paragraph of the lead? A good 1-2 more sentences will do it fine.

  • Done by a sectence.

- Wikify Mobile Suit Gundam 00, if such an article exists.

  • Done.

- "Signed to King Records, Miyano debuted in May 2007 with the single "Kuon" (久遠 ,Eternity?), which was used as the ending theme song for anime series Kōtetsu Sangokushi; it debuted at #47 on the Oricon charts." I'm not a very big fan of this sentence, the way it sounds. Especially the beginning. Would you be able to re-write it?

  • Rewrote.

- The article is a little too small. I see that he has done a lot of roles in various anime. Are any of these roles notable? If so, his more notable roles should also be mentioned in the article, with references. The "Acting career" section should be expanded with that information.

  • The only ones that are notable are the ones where he has won or was nominated for an award. Other than that his other roles aren't mentioned.
I'm guessing his other roles are not main characters, or recurring ones? CarpetCrawlermessage me 20:48, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- I see that there is no information about his early life. Where was he born? Did he always want to do voice acting? If so, did he attend schooling for such an occupation? Also, his personal life is mentioned in the lead, but not in the article. I'm sure a section could probably be made in the article, but bigger than the paragraph in the lead.

  • I searched and I haven't been able to find anything about his early life. Like his early life there is no information about his personal life either other than he got married and is expecting a child. I check both of his official sites but they don't help all they do is tell you his birthplace, birthday, height, weight and blood type.
Blood type?! I guess for if any emergency donors are needed. :P Talk about a trivial fact! CarpetCrawlermessage me 20:48, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- The "Musical career" section could also be expanded. What do the critics think of his music? Also, it says where the songs debuted, but was the debut the peak # for the songs?

  • I expanded it by adding one more release since I can't find any reviews on his music from critics. Many articles concerning Asian artists are like that. Yes, the debut was the peak for the songs. He is still new to the music entertainment so, that's the most I could do about that section.
OK, that sounds good. CarpetCrawlermessage me 20:48, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Until my concerns have been addressed, I will place this article on hold. Please leave me a message on my talkpage if you have any questions, or if you have addressed my concerns. Thanks, and good luck! CarpetCrawlermessage me 05:58, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GA pass[edit]

OK, I have thought about it for quite a while, and am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and pass this article, since it seems that it is indeed extremley hard to find certain information. In which case, this article has been passed, great job! CarpetCrawlermessage me 05:19, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, thanks. While perhaps technically not a "reliable source", I think that satisfactorily establishes his involvement. --DAJF (talk) 22:45, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page[edit]

Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request it's removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Possible GA reassessment[edit]

It's been almost 10 years since this article was given a good article status but recent changes have led me to believe it may need a bit more tweaking to stay in that area. Some of my concerns include segmented and incomplete information in the "Musical career" section that does not cover the whole scope. I also noticed that some of his discography information does not follow MOS:JAPAN#Titles of media where there is still some stylized capitalization and symbols. Also, the discography info does not follow the MOS proposed by WP:WikiProject Discographies. lullabying (talk) 16:03, 23 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

GA Reassessment[edit]

This discussion is transcluded from Talk:Mamoru Miyano/GA2. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the reassessment.

GAR request in July by Lullabying and I agree that this article appears well below standard. The lists in discography and filmography dominate the article, it is more IMDB than encyclopaedia article. The prose is very poor in the second half of musical career. No cites for awards. Needs a lot of work if it is to remain. AIRcorn (talk) 03:53, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: The prose in the musical career section is disjointed. Radio shows and awards need to be sourced. The discography is currently not using the Manual of Style associated with Wikipedia:WikiProject Discographies and may need editing (Girls' Generation discography is a perfect example to base on). Because Mamoru Miyano is a prolific singer and actor, I suggest that separate pages be given for his discography (like Shouta Aoi discography) and filmography. Filmography could maybe be broken down to Live-action work (television, theater, films) and Voice work (anime, video games, OVA/ONA, and dubbing) -- kind of like Rena Hasegawa, maybe? (I disclose that I worked on that article so my suggestion may not be 100% great.) On a separate note, why does tokusatsu have its own category? It's literally no different from a TV drama. OVA and ONA sections can be combined too. lullabying (talk) 19:02, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Delist: Some of his work isn't cited, is my main issue. It's fine for B article Usually the intro of artist his scope has three chunky paragraph with the first one about from his roots to breakthrough. I understand the subject is many things a singer, actor, and host, but why three section? For a good format look at Elvis Presley's article (featured article) who's both a singer and an actor.Filmman3000 (talk) 22:16, 24 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Filmman3000: There was a similar discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Anime and manga/Archive 73#Merge "Anime" with "television" / "Anime film" with "film" about this issue before. lullabying (talk) 00:44, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Lullabying,

Sorry for replying to your comment my intention was just to cast my votes, and explain my logic beyond the vote. I will format the article a little bit, and see where it need citations, and give you my second thoughts.Filmman3000 (talk) 02:46, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Will give the feedback on your personal page.Filmman3000 (talk) 03:16, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: As per Lullabying request I will post my feedback here as well. I have standardized the article in a way that is more up to par with featured media bios.

Below is the comment I left on Lullabuying's page.

Just restructured you article you may want "subheading 1" saying stuff along the lines of early works to prominence, voice acting breakthrough, continuous career to musical breakthrough, subsequent success...

You seem like a serious editor so I presume you are reusing the same citation at another point in the article, which it fine.

Also when he reprises/return/revisits the role below. Put them in their according year. Finally in 2009, his notable roles is a tokusatsu character named Ultraman Zero, the son of Ultraseven who first made his debut in the movie Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legend The Movie before starring in subsequent movies Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial and Ultraman Saga. Lacking a series of his own, Zero continued to appear as the main host of Ultraman Retsuden/Shin Ultraman Retsuden and in subsequent Ultra Series entries, with the recent being Ultraman Zero: The Chronicle in 2017.

Once done I will gladly revoke my vote.Filmman3000 (talk) 04:00, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: @Filmman3000 and Lullabying: I would also suggest splitting the discography and filmography. ミラP 20:31, 10 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment/Reply the filmography and discography section are separated. If you meant the bio section, when I look at featured articles on actors who diversify in acting, singing, and voice acting it is all mixed in together.Filmman3000 (talk) 20:15, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delisting Still a lot of issues. Editors are welcome to renominate it when they feel it has been improved to GA standard. AIRcorn (talk) 09:45, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Split proposed[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
The result of this discussion was to split the sections into Mamoru Miyano filmography and Mamoru Miyano discography. Both new list articles still need some cleanup and proper referencing. Charcoal feather (talk) 07:50, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Aircorn, Filmman3000, and Lullabying: Given the delisting from GA, I'm planning to split two parts of the article into two separate articles. Thoughts? ミラP 03:54, 21 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Keep it in on article. I will delineated year and breakthrough.Filmman3000 (talk) 03:57, 21 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Made a mistake my bad, I understood something else, and added subheadings to the career. A page dedicated to his filmography, and discography is a good idea.Filmman3000 (talk) 04:14, 21 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think that would make much difference to the Good Status (it really needs the prose worked on), but have no complaints if you decided to go this way. You could create a Mamoru Miyano discography and filmography like Neil Young discography and filmography and others if you want to minimise the number of splits. AIRcorn (talk) 20:34, 21 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I support splitting the discography and filmography pages to two separate pages, as both sections are very large in itself. However, I agree with Aircorn that the issue of its delisting isn't because of those sections but mostly because the article is undersourced as a whole. His roles are mostly unsourced and the music bio section is disjointed. His awards sections are also unsourced. lullabying (talk) 07:00, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Side-note on filmography: I don't see a reason why tokusatsu is its own category as opposed to being listed under "television drama." lullabying (talk) 23:38, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The discussion above is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
