Slave ownership category

The article is tagged with Category:American slave owners. While this may be true, it seems to be unsourced and not mentioned in the article. My understanding is also that this category is for people for whom slave ownership was a particularly notable part of their life (much as we try not to categorize people according to their religion unless the religion was a defining characteristic of their life). The only mention of slavery in this article is his defense of an enslaved man. I have therefore removed that category. —⁠ ⁠BarrelProof (talk) 01:05, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
