Conflicting data[edit]

This article is missing its bio template, and the information in it differs from the article linked below, which reports that he was in jail for protesting colonial oppression when he began to take bodybuilding seriously. It also says he just turned 100. --Pawyilee (talk) 13:35, 18 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • "Pint-sized former Mr. Universe turns 100 in India" (News & blogging). Asian Correspondent. Bristol, England: Hybrid News Limited. AP. March 18, 2012. KOLKATA, India (AP) — A former Mr. Universe who is one of the shortest winners of the body building contest has turned 100, saying Sunday that happiness and a life without tensions are the key to his longevity.

Aich born in Comilla district?[edit]

Aich was born in a place which is now a part of Comilla District in Bangladesh. In 1912, the year he was born, the present Comilla District did not exist. It along with the present Brahmanbaria District and Chandpur District constituted the undivided Tipperah District of Bengal Presidency in British India. The Tipperah District with headquarters at Comilla town was sometimes casually referred to as Comilla District, however the official name had all along been Tipperah. I am therefore proposing that the district of his birth should be corrected to Tipperah District. BengaliHindu (talk) 17:19, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Varying birth years[edit]

In this interview he gives a birth year of 1914

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-8fwQ_VMkk

On that basis I'm changing it in the article.Kurtdriver (talk) 22:52, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Based on this same interview www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-8fwQ_VMkk (the most recent information), where he states a birth year of 1914; I have made the appropriate edits.TFBCT1 11:39, 1 May 2016 (UTC)

Multiple secondary, independent sources and his son report he died at 104, and many also celebrated his 100th birthday in March 2012. This outweighs this one primary sourced answer, regardless of whether the hesitation in giving the exceptional claim in this 2006 video implies he was unsure, lying, neither or both. He might have also been wrong in 2012, but we reflect the mainstream view on facts. InedibleHulk (talk) 02:31, 6 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
As it was determined in August 2015; and then re-determined in May 2016, based on this same interview www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-8fwQ_VMkk (the most recent information), where he states a birth year of 1914; this does not change with his death, nor with the multiple misreports.TFBCT1 03:15, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
That interview is not the most recent information, despite the upload date being 2015 it clearly says at 0:44 the interview took place in 2006. Since then multiple sources reported on his 100th birthday celebrations in 2012, in addition to the sources reporting his age of 104 when he died.94.5.60.131 (talk) 08:03, 6 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I see the attempts to claim a 1914 birth year based on a 2006 interview have continued on this and the Deaths in 2016 article, despite multiple reliable sources detailing his 100th birthday party in 2012 and his age of 104 at the time of his death. There is no "most recent information" that you claim, the interview is from 2006 as detailed at 0:44 of the video.94.5.60.131 (talk) 11:29, 6 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
In case you need more, 1, 2, 3 more reliable sources from 2012 dealing with his 100th birthday, and there are dozens and dozens of articles dealing with his death at the age of 104. To ignore all those and try and persist with a year of birth of 102 based on an old interview (since contradicted by his 100th birthday party), and articles which may have got their information from Wikipedia is simply not on. If you want to persist with the silly claim that he was born in 1914, can you possibly explain all the 100th birthday party articles from 2012?94.5.60.131 (talk) 11:40, 6 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
There is no more proof that he was born in 1912, than in 1914. And the man himself stated he was born in 1914 as indicated above. He is also listed as born in 1914 in other areas of Wikipedia. His career ages and dates coincide with 1914 birthdate in the article.TFBCT1 14:00, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
Except for all the sources covering his 100th birthday party in 2012 that you fail to address, despite specifically being asked to. Other areas of Wikipedia are irrelevant, Wikipedia is not a reliable source. Do you have any reliable sources for your claim that his "career ages and dates coincide with 1914 birthdate", since sources reporting on his 100th birthday report he won Mr. Universe aged 40 in 1952. Meaning he was born in 1912....94.5.60.131 (talk) 14:18, 6 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Just a point of interest. You are the one who is edit warring. His age has been listed here as "1914" since last August. And you really have no explanation for the compelling proof of the man himself, looking into the camera, and stating, "I was born 17th of March 1914." As for career ages and dates, this is right from the article: In 1950, at the age of 36, Aich won the Mr. Hercules contest. In 1951 he stood second in the Mr. Universe contest. In 1952 he placed first in the Pro-Short division of the NABBA Mr. Universe.[1] He also won the World Championship of Spring Pulling by tearing a spring of 275 pounds tension. In 1955 he stood third in the Mr. Universe contest. In 1960 he stood fourth in the Mr. Universe contest at the age of 46 years. He did many bodybuilding shows from 1960. His last show was performed at 2003 at the age of 89.He is also listed in Lists of centenarians with a "1914" birth year.TFBCT1 14:32, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
I am afraid I am not edit warring. I have changed his date of birth once, whereas you have changed it seven times in the last 24 hours. http://contest.bodybuilding.com/results/8982 is meaningless, since it doesn't give his date of birth. Equally meaningless is "As for career ages and dates, this is right from the article: In 1950, at the age of 36, Aich won the Mr. Hercules contest", since if I change it (which is why Wikipedia isn't reliable) to "at the age of 38" it would support the 1912 year or birth since the reference doesn't say he won it at the age of 38. Enough of WP:IDIDNTHEARTHAT as in your comment at the end of "He is also listed in Lists of centenarians with a "1914" birth year", what happens if I go and change it to 1912? Your argument vanishes. Now for the third time, WHY WON'T YOU ADDRESS THAT HE HAD HIS 100TH BIRTHDAY PARTY IN 2012?.14:45, 6 June 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.5.60.131 (talk)

1912 restored[edit]

As the article stood, it had the bizarre statement that "In March 2012, Aich became a centenarian", while giving his date of birth as 1914. This is obviously unacceptable. Various reasons have been put forward for 1914, and all have been refuted as far as I can see.

  • "The video at www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-8fwQ_VMkk contains the most recent information" (composite quote). As clearly stated at 0:44 of the video the interview is from 2006, and he isn't emphatic in his response and may have been having a "senior moment". More recent than 2006 is 2012, when he celebrated his 100th birthday and gave an interview(s), according to multiple reliable sources. 2012 is "more recent" than 2006, regardless of the video being uploaded in 2015.
  • "There is no more proof that he was born in 1912, than in 1914". So why go with 2012 when the evidence is substantially in favour of 2014? 100th birthday party in 2012, multiple reliable sources covering this, multiple reliable sources giving age at death of 104, thus a 1912 year of birth.
  • "And the man himself stated he was born in 1914 as indicated above". And the man himself later celebrated his 100th birthday in 2012, meaning he was born in 1912.
  • "He is also listed as born in 1914 in other areas of Wikipedia". WP:WPNOTRS, "Wikipedia articles (and Wikipedia mirrors) are not reliable sources for any purpose".
  • "His career ages and dates coincide with 1914 birthdate in the article", expanded upon with "As for career ages and dates, this is right from the article: In 1950, at the age of 36, Aich won the Mr. Hercules contest. In 1951 he stood second in the Mr. Universe contest. In 1952 he placed first in the Pro-Short division of the NABBA Mr. Universe". No reliable sources have been provided to support this, only what Wikipedia pages sau and they can be altered at will.
  • "He is also listed in Lists of centenarians with a "1914" birth year". See previous two points.
  • "His age has been listed here as "1914" since last August". Yes, because you and another editor chose to disregard existing sources #1 and #2 from the July 2015 version. Source #1 gave his year of birth as 1913, while source #2 covered his 100th birthday celebrations in 2012. Common sense would suggest relying on a 2006 interview to contradict a verifiable 100th birthday party in 2012 wasn't a good idea. Your error came under scrutiny when the subject died and other editors edited the article, and you do not own the article.

Now the case for 1912:

The consensus among reliable sources is that he celebrated his 100th birthday in 2012 and was 104 when he died. I am amending the article to reflect this.94.5.60.131 (talk) 19:50, 6 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
