Edits[edit]

The whole article needs some major work. Before I added a few cites, there were absolutely no footnotes or citations whatsoever; the article didn't even contain a References section.

I partially "wikified" it to bring it more up to "code." But, as I said above, it needs a complete rewrite. And I don't have background in early black vaudeville and cinema to do it properly.

However, sometimes things did need to be changed; some big, some little.

I changed African American to the correct African-American. "Hyphenated Americans"--Teddy Roosevelt [I believe] coined the term [circa 1900!!] as pejorative to describe the desire of those who wished, divisively, in his view [and mine], to give their former homelands, nationalities or their ethnicities more importance than their American citizenship--editorializing aside, the standard usage is with a hyphen between the terms, whether it's Polish-American or African-American or Tungusic-American.

Bigger Changes

I added content to the section on Moreland's film/TV work. A pervious editor had only left a sentence fragment directing readers to the subject's IMDb page(!).

Unlike the sections called "Stage Work" and "Recordings", I put this section in proper encyclopedic form, i.e. writing a paragraph instead of including a Trivia list as has been done with the former two sections.

The section needs to be more fully fleshed out, with expansion on his significant roles. Again, this is not a subject with which I am familiar; nor probably are most people who aren't film historians. And, I don't happen to have a copy of Leonard Maltin's movie encyclopedia (which would only give one brief synopses anyway).

I also created a Cultural References section, and added a relatively recent one, from Robert Parker's 1999 novel Hush Money.

I added a Reference section with proper Net links where available.

Improving the main article with quotes[edit]

Surely Mantan Moreland himself was quoted in many magazine and newspaper articles?

Is there any way some of his many quotes could be referred to, to improve this article? 216.99.201.197 (talk) 00:31, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
