Weight in Kilos (pounds, stone)

[edit]

The default measure for his weight ought to be kilos, as per Wikipedia policy of favoring the local conventions in such matters. Mexico uses the metric system. Giving measurements in pounds can be justified given bothy the large US readership of Wikipedia and by the fact that Uribe lived in Dallas, Texas. However i am the fattest person and this whole article is about me— Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.246.168.112 (talk) 23:30, 28 February 2012 (UTC) , numbers in pounds should be given in parentheses. Giving the numbers in stone has much less justification as nowhere is it part of an official system of weights and measures. However, given the sizable Wiki-readership from the British Isles, there is some justification in using stone but NOT as the default measure, which is now the case with the article. I'm going to rewrite the numbers to make kilos the default and to place pounds and stone in parentheses. In passing, I might add that I'm an American, so this isn't being done out of any desire to favor the local system with which I'm most familiar. Interlingua 20:52, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

While I agree that theres probably not much need for a weight to be given in stones if it is given in kilograms and lbs its wrong to suggest that the stone is arbitrary - it's a defined imperial unit, an obscure one limited to very few countries granted but it's not arbitrary.84.66.132.134 (talk) 10:25, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Records

[edit]

I added this: Uribe, a former auto parts dealer, who celebrated his 43th birthday on June 11, 2008, said: "We are in love, and this year my birthday wish is to be able to stand when we get married; We are a couple; We have sex, and in the eyes of God we are already married." On 2004, he met Solis, 38, a hairdresser, who stated: "I bathe him every day, and we get along very well." Sitting in bed, Uribe would regularly exercise with arms pull-ups and by hand pedaling. He announced plans to launch the Manuel Uribe Foundation to educate Mexican people about nutrition, to combat obesity problems. He would ask Guinness to certify in July, 2008, his second title: “The world's greatest loser of weight.”ap.google.com, 700-pound Mexican man hopes to stand for weddingtorontosun.com, Big goal, thanks to love--Florentino floro (talk) 08:09, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Zone Diet

[edit]

A lot of this article appears to be about promoting the Zone Diet as opposed to providing information about Manuel Uribe. This is especially true in parts of the Personal Life section, some of which reads like editorial as opposed to encyclopedic content. I also removed the following line from the end of the section: "For exclusive video footage of Dr. Sears' recent trip to Manuel's home in Mexico as well as continued updates on Manuel's progress, visit www.zonediet.com." Cuffeparade (talk) 20:28, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed a large amount of unreferenced material including what his pre-diet purported meals consisted of etc. Bigdaddy1981 (talk) 18:14, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

--- I also agree that the Zone should be de-emphasized. Also, according to the TLC documentary, he only demonstrated a weightloss of 20lb (yes, twenty) during a year on the diet. The huge weightloss they attribute to the Zone diet was by comparing a baseline of unknown origin to his weight after the first year on the diet. They either did not perform, or did not reveal the results of, a baseline weight when he actually +started+ the diet. Visually its clear he did lose weight during the first year on Zone (to be expected by the calorie reduction alone, nothing special about the Zone diet is demonstrated by it), but how much is unproven. ~~Davepl -- Frankly, to be encyclopedic, I think it should read that he lost a significant amount of weight during the first year of the diet. Exactly how much, and now relevant the aspects of the Zone diet were, is really unknown. ~~Davepl —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.197.183.28 (talk) 03:34, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

TOO MANY CITATION NEEDED TAGS

[edit]

Folks, not every sentence has to have a citation. If you think the article should receive better citation, do the research yourself or put in a general statement to that effect. I can't believe someone wasted their time putting a citation needed tag on every single sentence on this article. Ridiculous. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.127.98.2 (talk) 18:21, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Recent death.

[edit]

I found this article on Yahoo! stating that he is recently dead. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Triple-Quadruple 2.0 (talkcontribs) 00:50, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah you need to read that article, it states that Jose Luis Garza died, NOT Manuel Uribe Garza. (Kkjohnsonws (talk) 15:35, 8 October 2008 (UTC))[reply]

In Spanish

[edit]

Considering that he's Mexican and speaks Spanish, shouldn't this page be created in Spanish as well? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.160.139.154 (talk) 06:03, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism

[edit]

I suspect the people that keep reverting back to some guy by the name of Campbell will probably never bother to look at the talk page, especially since all the edits done under the previous IP were vandalism. But for what it's worth, what Mr. Uribe has done in losing all that weight shouldn't be trivialized for the sake of a prank or slander against someone else. aremisasling (talk) 05:29, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Xocoyotzin  user continuously  try to publicize Washingtonpost newspaper

[edit]

Washingtonpost publish this article just today (27th may, 2014) while ABC news wrote a good article about manuel uribe in 2008. WP completely copied all quotes from ABC news. but user Xocoyotzin always try to mentioned washintonpost names. WP article is very small and not reliable as ABC news . They write in hurry, no authenticity , nothing..  I strongly suspect that user Xocoyotzin has a link with washintonpost  — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.99.53.180 (talk) 19:51, 27 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have no links to the Washington Post, this IP is just a troll exiting from India and editing from 117.99.53.78 and from 117.99.53.180 who has tried twice to replace the first reference of the article (regardless of what is says) with a link to the website 2il.org,[1][2] then the Daily Mail[3] and now ABC News[4] (which I *myself* included in the article, along with more references to The Guardian, The Sydney Morning Herald, Washington Post, etc).[5] He inserts into literal quotes that the subject eats all day[6], removes links to The Guardian[7], claims the subject of the article was a taco seller and type writer[8], etc. I warned him several times in his talk page[9] but he changed his IP from 117.99.53.78 to 117.99.53.180 --Xocoyotzin (talk) 20:19, 27 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I didn't changed the ip, it was automatically changed by my internet service provider. . your edit add no value to this article. is it necessary to add this "According to a scientific study published in Clinical Cardiology and quoted by the Washington Post, genetics, a poor diet and, particularly, a sedentary lifestyle contribute to the onset of morbid obesity.[1] After five years in a new country, his obesity sharply increased[6] and took a toll on his first marriage: "[My wife] asked me for a divorce […] I was very depressed […] Everything ended on account of my obesity, because I spent a lot of money trying to see doctors, going on diets, and I just gained more weight."[7]" what scientific study  you are referring ?  Please stop editing without reading any reference website  — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.99.53.180 (talk) 20:45, 27 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It is mentioned in the article of the Washington Post that you have been trolling and trying to substitute for the past three hours.[10] - --Xocoyotzin (talk) 20:52, 27 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Change the paragraph. sedentary obese individuals walks less then 2500 steps where 10,000 steps walks by normal individual ) .. remove quotes... and add this study ... your edit is meaningless — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.99.53.180 (talk) 20:57, 27 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but you come across as simple troll gaining time and have provided zero arguments in three hours. I am trying to get you blocked. --Xocoyotzin (talk) 21:04, 27 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

– The main title header of this article was moved on 9 October 2008 from Manuel Uribe Garza to Manuel Uribe with the edit summary, "If we drop the "Garza", which most sources don't use, then perhaps people will stop confusing him with Jose Luis Garza". Subject thus became the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC by default, but does not appear to be prominent enough to hold that position. The two others at the Manuel Uribe (disambiguation) page — Manuel Uribe Ángel, "father of medicine of Antioquia", and Manuel Uribe y Troncoso, are both listed with matronymics, unless "Uribe y Troncoso" is considered as one surname. An alternative proposal may be to use a qualifier, although Manuel Uribe (obese man) may not seem satisfactory to some / many !voters. —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 09:24, 8 March 2017 (UTC)--Relisting.
