Birthdays? New Year![edit]

I can confirm it's used for birthdays in at least some parts of the US Midwest, where it's used the same way for anniversaries. Generally framed as, "Happy birthday, many happy returns!" or, "It's your anniversary, may you have many happy returns!" The only times I've heard it as a response to "Happy New Year" is in media, so maybe regions tend toward using it only as an initial wish or only as a response? 40.131.144.10 (talk) 03:17, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
