Dispute[edit]

I have just removed an unreferenced statement that Aboriginal claims of being poisoned by the tests had been "proved to be false" as I don't believe this is true. However, there are still more statements (such as the one "All the bomb plume fallout has long since decayed to safe levels") that may be questioned and, at the very least, need referencing. See, for example, the information in the article: McClelland Royal Commission and the 2003 article, "Maralinga's Afterlife", from the Melbourne Age [1]. The article, overall, seems to be attempting to whitewash uncomfortable matters - for example, it does not mention that radiation experiments were continued until may, 1963 at Maralinga and that some of the radioactive clouds drifted over major urban areas, including Adelaide. I have, therefore, also downgraded the article's status from "Start" class to "Stub".John Hill (talk) 23:33, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Made it clearer that the effectiveness of cleanup has been challenged - added sources. The article British nuclear tests at Maralinga should pick up the broader issues. Paul foord (talk) 01:07, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merge[edit]

Oak Valley, South Australia was created in 2009. Should it be merged here? John Vandenberg (chat) 04:16, 8 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Land handover[edit]

It is not true that "Premier Rann handed back title to 21,000 square kilometres of land to the Maralinga Tjarutja and Pila Nguru people". The premier was not the owner, so could not hand over title.101.98.163.177 (talk) 08:16, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have rated the article as start level again since some additions (more accurate description of radiation fallout and contamination problems, and coordinates inserted) have been made to the article since I downgraded it to stub level previously. Also, I have listed it of mid importance to Australia and SA due to its historical importance an implications. John Hill (talk) 11:24, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
