Pope Marcellinus and Marcellinus and Peter[edit]

Marcellinus in the Marcellinus and Peter article and Pope Marcellinus are the same person. Believe me, I am one of people who is named after him. The year of deaths are the same, both are martyrs, and have the same location. The feast dates, however, are different. Pope Marcellinus is in April while Marcellinus and Peter is in June. But here is my source confirming further that this person is the same, saying that the feast is in June: [1] - mind that you have to click X all the time to remove the annoying login screen before being able to read it for a short time.
Further, I have a proof in form of a book in Indonesian language, which said that Marcellinus was a priest becoming a pope - which exactly matches the description of both articles - with feast date on 2 June. Consider for a merger of these article w_tanoto (talk) 20:07, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. The article is sourced with reliable, scientific publications which state that the two persons are different. The Catholic Encyclopaedia is certainly the best source to make a decision like this. Zello (talk) 23:43, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Zello. My breviary makes no mention of Marcellinus as a pope, and when there are pope-martyrs, it specifies--e.g. Fabian, Martin I, John I, etc. Carl.bunderson (talk) 23:19, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Zello and Carl.bunderson. They are not the same person, and the pope's main feast day is April 26. The pope's martyrdom is alleged, but the fact that he may have also been a martyr does not make him identical with Marcellinus the priest. --Polylerus (talk) 01:25, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rewriting[edit]

A lot of the biography section of this article is highly speculative. I suggest we reword a bit to make clear that the main sources are hagiographic and therefore need to be treated with caution as the basis for historical facts. Contaldo80 (talk) 06:17, 26 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
